We must always come to the Bible with the backdrop of knowing we will be exposed. Self-Exposure. Illusions Shattered. Grace Offered. Justified. " The eyes of the LORD are in every place, watching the evil and the good." Proverbs 12:25
So here is what God spoke to me through today:
"The one who guards his mouth preserves his life;
The one who opens wide his lips comes to ruin."
Proverbs 13:3
"A gentle answer turns away wrath;
but a harsh word stirs up anger."
Proverbs 15:1
What do my words reveal about what is going on inside of me?
This is not about behavioral modification.
This is all about repenting from the ways we make our life work: disconnecting, distancing, detaching, dissonance, deliberate nonchalance.
"The wise woman builds her house,
but the foolish tears it down with her own hands."
Proverbs 14:1
What does it take to build my house this day?
God is watching.
When the Fear of God is a first thing in our lives,
then we will obey the revelatory commands.
We will just want to so much!
PRAYER FROM PSALMS
Psalm 34:15 - Dear God, Your Eyes are on each of us, in all our rights and wrongs. Your Ears are open to our cries. Help us, this day, this moment, to build our house not tear it down.
Much of today's readings deal with the words we speak. Sometimes I think Annette, you did it - you kept your mouth shut, however my thoughts were sinful, true they did not hurt anyone but me. I long for the day when my words and thoughts line up with the Lord's. I have come a long way in this area of my walk, still a long way to go, and ever thankful He is with me.
ReplyDeleteOh me too, Annette. That my heart would be pure, my thoughts aligning to His. Amen!
DeleteEach verse in Proverbs is something you can chew on for hours to truly appreciate. The one verse "a wise woman builds her house but a foolish woman tears it down with her own hands" examines my heart and tells me I've done the latter at times. At first I might say, "well, yeah!" to a verse like this but then I think that is exactly what I have done more than a few times in tearing something good down with my own words, my own actions. What is there that is so destructive within me that wouldn't seek my own good as well as those I love? Still some of that old sin that needs to die off, unless I let a root take hold. Like Paul, there's a war waging within me, but...
ReplyDeleteBut thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Our Advocate. Our Friend. I can't make myself good, but He can put a new garment of white on me.The all-sufficient Savior Who paid the price once and magnificently for even this day's sin, and every sin hereafter.
Father, Help us in our homes to build good foundations of Your Love, Your Faithfulness, Your Respect for our families, for our "house" whatever that house looks like--our own bodies, our literal homes, our church families, our circles. Let our "houses" be the Temple where You live. And in this, may You be glorified through each of us, magnified to be Your servants and ambassadors to this lost and dark world. We love you for freeing us from sin that we may be productive for Your Kingdom and soon-coming Reign. Amen.
