July 14 "Trusting Awe" Proverbs 4:23

There is so much instruction of what "to do" in Proverbs that it confuses me.  I am surrounded with a host of older parents evaluating what has happened to their families.  They laid a very good foundation of walking with God.  Yet, children have departed to worldly ways.  Even Proverbs says to train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he won't depart, he will still be walking with God.  So what am I missing here?  No guarantees.  We lay the foundation.  We trust God in the dark. Rather than a focus on "doing," it's "being."  "Watch over your heart with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life." Proverbs 4:23.

"You will hear and live My Wisdom only if first you fear Me.  If you fall before Me in desperate terror and draw near to me in trusting awe."  66LL

These chapters speak of illusion.  Sometimes, I think that this life that surrounds me is full of illusions that people are doing well, and they really aren't.  It is hard to fail, fear, doubt or be depressed in our Christian circles.  So, deny that it is happening and all is well.  May we deal with diligence in watch over our hearts and what stirs within.  Whatever rudeness, meanness, unkindness, selfishness that flows out is not life.  I have spent far too much of my life trying to correct the behaviors---my own and others, rather than deal with the roots that spring forth.  No more!

PRAYER FROM PSALMS
Oh, God! Help me to know way down deep where it really counts what it means to watch over my own heart with all diligence.  Proverbs 4:23

  1. We must keep our eyes fixed on God's Wisdom, His path, and His Word. It it easy to let the "wisdom" of the world creep in as it assails us daily. It is sad some of the most regarded pastors in our nation have let non Christian teachings creep into their sermons.

May we keep our eyes on the Lord and His teaching, acquiring His Wisdom.

  2. On watching over our hearts with diligence, I think Bev has struck a chord with me! We work on our behaviors and have no power. We address our heart issues and seek Love's healing touch and we are made whole. Not perfect yet, but we find peace and purpose again. We find true spiritual health which cannot help but influence our behaviors.

Proverbs does give promises that seem far away at times, but we cling because He's told us these things. "Train up a child in the way he should go..." is one parents claim often, and, I believe, take to the spiritual bank. We may not see it, but we can believe His Word. This world is the illusion. And the world's dark wisdom is the cloud.

Let us continue to persevere as the days become darker and our hearts grow weary. He's waiting with open arms. Let us put our trust in the One Who hears our prayers and provides peace in the waiting while He works all things out.

Romans 8:28 "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose."

    Blessed Sunday, Pearls!

  3. Proverbs 6:16 "There are six things which the Lord hates,
Yes, seven which are an abomination to Him:
17 Haughty eyes, a lying tongue,
And hands that shed innocent blood,
18 A heart that devises wicked plans,
Feet that run rapidly to evil,
19 A false witness who utters lies,
And one who spreads strife among brothers."

In my heart of hearts, I feel guilty of all the above.

A strong Reminder to treat others as we would have them treat us. Strongly convicted to please God, and keep my heart pure.
