May 17 "Seek Not Great Things" II Chron 26:16

What does our world look like?
The sins of the kings that went before King Uzziah was that of turning their back on God---
forsaking the things of God.  But, this King embraced the things of God.
But, he wanted them a little too much.  A little too high.
Uzziah enters the Holy of Holies with pride.  Seeking what God has not given.
Forbidden Knowledge.
Why do I seek a door God has not opened.
"But when Uzziah became strong," his heart became corrupt,
and he did things he should not have done. II Chron 26:16.
 Uzziah. Pride of heart.
Live the Life that is before you---what God has called you to.
Seek not great things for yourself.

PRAYER FROM PSALMS

May we join the prayer of David's heart:
My heart is not proud, nor my eyes haughty;
Nor do I involve myself in great matters,
Or in things too difficult for me.
Amen and Amen.
Ps 131:1

  1. It can be hard at time to see something is not a part of God's plan for us or for us at that moment - And the man of God answered, “The Lord has much more to give you than this.” His vision isn't finite, we must remember that, He sees the big picture. We can be all about Kingdom work and still be plagued by pride.

Bev's prayer today says it all.

  2. There is something about seeing a haughty person put in his place that makes us cheer and fear at the same time. We're usually glad to see another fall, but truth be told, our own hearts know there is something inside us that thinks we're right and always wants more--whatever more is, be it fame, fortune, power, control.

Uzziah was 16 when he became king and was in charge for fifty odd years. He served the Lord, but got ahead of himself, thinking he deserved a privilege that was not appointed to him. He forgot where his help had come. He lost his God-centeredness and thought too well of himself.

There's always the danger of pride when we believe we are being good, serving the Lord. Reminds me of the old line "I'm always right. Once I thought I was wrong, but I was wrong." Kind of funny, but a good check for souls, too.

Praying with each of you today Psalm 131:1, and examining my heart in this area.
