May 16 "Bring Him Back" II Chron 24:19

Be still.  O My Soul.
Do I know godliness with no power?

They have a form of godliness...looks good on paper.
Looks awful good in person, in speech, in action, in song.
But their lives deny the power of God.
Have nothing to do with such people.  That's II Timothy 3:5.
They act religious but reject the Power that could make them godly.

What happened to this king?
What happened to those we know who veer off?
"The gold becomes dim..."

King Joash appears more zealous to repair the Temple,
Than his father, Jehoida.
A form of godliness.
This pious pristine prince murders his son in a fit of rage.
The prophets try to bring him back. II Chron 24:19.

Be careful who you surround yourself with.
"They made obeidance to King Joash."  II Chron 24:17.
The King who murdered his very own son.

A form of godliness denying the Power.
O God, what about my own life?
Where do I hold a form of godliness with no power?
Thank you for prophets and prayer and peace.

PRAYER FROM PSALMS
Psalm 34:14
O God, help me.
Turn from evil.
Do good.
Seek peace.
Pursue it.
Help me to see the forms of godliness,
with no power in my own life.

  1. He did evil in the sight of the Lord like the house of Ahab, for they were his counselors after the death of his father, to his destruction. He also walked according to their counsel, and went with Jehoram the son of Ahab king of Israel to wage war against Hazael king of Aram at Ramoth-gilead.

Who counsels me? Do I choose counselors who tell me what I want to hear or do I seek the Word of God and pray to Him relying on the Holy Spirit to answer and counsel me? Do I seek Christian counsel from mature Christians and trusted pastors or look to a quick fix?

Lord, If I ever seek counsel outside of You and mature, wise Christians reveal it to me so I may slam the door shut.

  2. Seeking friends' counsel and walking according to their advice doesn't do us a lot of good. It's so tempting to poll our friends and see what everyone thinks, but not seek real Wisdom from Godly counsel or spend time in prayer. Recently, I had a decision before me that was not really big, but I really sought God's advice because it was a desire of mine, not something I need. I asked Him to open and close doors, and I was surprised how hard the door closed shut. It was almost unheard of for that kind of thing to happen. I knew it was God because I was looking for Him, seeking His wisdom. I don't always do this like I should, but it was so easy to let go and know what to do when I did.

And Bev, that verse from Timothy haunts me. I wonder how much my own faith doesn't expect God's power or perhaps the trap I fall into most, believe His power is available to me personally. I am convinced most of us barely tap into that miracle-producing power of God that He wants to supply.

However big we think God is, He's so much more.
