How is it that they waited hours, days, months for a Cloud to move? They had no permanent place to lay their heads. Things did not matter to these wandering souls like it does to me. A wall to hang my pictures on. A kitchen to call my own. A friend who will not betray me. Someone who won't give up on me.
"All our removes in this world are but from one wilderness to another. The changes we think will be for the better do not always prove so. We shall never be at rest, never at home, till we come to heaven, but all will be well there." Matthew Henry. Why is it that my world believes changes will be for the better?
And when the ark set forward, Moses prayed:
Rise up, LORD. Numbers 10:35
Let my enemies be scattered and flee.
Those who go against Your Will and make this life miserable for us.
Return to us like you did to the thousands of Israelites.
Rest with us.
Cause us to really rest.
It's not safety in numbers
but a Safe Place in Your Presence, O Eternal God.
PRAYER FROM PSALMS
Psalm 105:39 - O God, spread a cloud of cover over our lives. Protect us from the darts of the Enemy of our lives. Cover us this Day. Light our Way this Night. We need your Good Hand on us as we move through our own wilderness. And would you send into our lives, those who will be "as eyes for us," (Numbers 10:31) --- friends who can help us get through what we face.
OVERVIEW: Numbers 8-10

They followed a Cloud by day, a Pillar by night...if I had been their enemies, I would surely scatter! That must have been a frightful sight.
ReplyDeletePraying with you this prayer, Bev, for each of us, as I set out today. We know not what the next moment brings. Wilderness, nomadic living surely takes its toll. We are strangers in this land, but Home is waiting, prepared for us by Jesus Himself. Meanwhile, we ask for a Cloud of protection, and a friend to help us see along the way.
Early this morning I dreamed, and I woke with the strong feeling that God has placed us in a desert, not to punish us, but to strengthen us and to make us bloom in a dry place. When we are in a lush garden, there are so many flowers, it is difficult to see one flower.
ReplyDeleteIn a desert, a blossom is visible from a distance.
We are wandering in this desert for a time. We are not alone, God, our Mighty Cloud, is shading our heads, healing our hearts and providing our needs.
No more than we need, just enough to trust Him with all our hearts.
As I read today's passage I could not help but think of Jesus on the Cross because the Lord said:
ReplyDelete“Speak to the sons of Israel, saying, ‘If any one of you or of your generations becomes unclean because of a dead [f]person, or is on a distant journey, he may, however, observe the Passover to the Lord. 11 In the second month on the fourteenth day at twilight, they shall observe it; they shall eat it with unleavened bread and bitter herbs. 12 They shall leave none of it until morning, nor break a bone of it; according to all the statute of the Passover they shall observe it. - Nor break a bone of the lamb just as our Lamb's Body was not broken.
Also the final verses in today's reading: Then it came about when the ark set out that Moses said,
“Rise up, O Lord! And let Your enemies be scattered, And let those who hate You flee [l]before You.” 36 When it came to rest, he said, “Return, O Lord, To the myriad thousands of Israel.”
I would scatter if I were the enemy of Israel and witnessed the Cloud & Fire!
I pray today for the protection of Israel.
