July 18 "Motives" Proverbs 16-18

"To humans belong the plans of the heart but from the Lord comes the proper answer of the tongue." All a person's ways seem pure to them, but motives are weighed by the Lord. Proverbs 16:1-2 We are not sufficient in ourselves to think or speak anything. All our sufficiency is of God. God is always with our mouth and our thoughts and our heart. While we do purpose and plan with freedom of heart, the delivery and design, the issue and success is of the Lord, not of man. God disposes. God breaks our measures. Father, break our thoughts, our hearts, our plans---with Yours. Matthew Henry says: "There is a great deal of pollution cleaving to our ways." God weighs our spirit in a just and unerring balance, knows us full, passes a judgment Tekel "upon that which passed our scale with approbation, weighed in the balance and found wanting. By His Judgment we stand or fall.
