February 11 "One Thing We Need in a Wilderness---Hope" Exodus 36-38

What zeal!  What work ethic!  What thoroughness! Do we approach our tasks this way, knowing it is for God?  Wonder why.  They brought so much to build the temple that Moses had to restrain them to stop. Exodus 36:6.  Moses could have kept the profits in his back pocket, his back neighborhood. Could have stored it up, in a wilderness, for the next job. No, The Lord put in their hearts to work, and it stirred them up.  Exodus 35:34 - God put in their hearts to teach how to perform like this.  I mean, who had ever built a tabernacle before?  And the wilderness is not exactly where the best supplies could be found.  Never the mind, they set about to do their exact work.  Whatever God has stirred in our hearts, may we run to do the work out of a debt of love not labor.  Here it is.  The visible testimony of their love of God.  And one day that Love walked this earth, the Living Word.  Word made flesh, and He still tabernacles among us.

One quote keeps stirring in my heart.  As these craftsmen worked their labor of love, as I work out my labor this very day, may we all hear together that One Thing that a man in a wilderness longs for----"not relief from the misery, although that would be nice, but Hope---Hope of intimacy and Meaning, and Joy forever, in relationship with God." Larry Crabb.  It's a man-made tabernacle but God lives there.  And He tabernacles today inviting us into a deeper relationship with Him than we had yesterday.  May we never stay the same but move on in this wilderness.

COME BOLDLY:  Timeless Prayers
God, what are you stirring in our hearts to build in our families, our ministries, our world?  Give us Hope this day, right in the midst of this wilderness in which we sit, and help us to take a forward step, to fall forward, and know You are here moving among this day.

  1. Thank you for all your prayers, Pearls. God is giving me peace, even though it seems our world is falling apart, it isn't because this is exactly where God wants us to be, in this place and at this time. He offers glimmers of His promise to keep me going. I am so in awe of how God sends his people to comfort and to help when things are difficult. I keep praying, praising as I go about the day. I was reminded this morning as I prayed, to just clear my mind and breathe in the awesomeness of God.

  2. Mike and I were reading in Come Boldly this morning, p. 36, which focuses on coming boldly before the Throne of Grace, the Mercy Seat, where God administers His abundant mercy and grace. (This alone is a miraculous answered prayer) Then, I open the passages for today with Pearls, and God's people are building a miniature representation of heaven, the Tabernacle that points to and centers around God's magnificent mercy. Love His way of pointing out the same things over and over to me to drive home the message I need for this day!

Let us rest today at the Mercy Seat where everything that keeps us from Him is melted away, the great curtain of divide is rent from top to bottom all because of Jesus, all because of His mercy and love. He builds His dwelling place within us, that we can know Him to the very center of our souls, that He is abiding deep in the tabernacle of our hearts. Feel the majesty. Feel the peace. Know Him fully in the deepest places. All because of His Mercy and Grace.
