October 7 "Live to Give Not Get" Matthew 14:13

Oh, that Christ be formed in each one of us. Galatians 4:19. How does that happen?  Is it because we believe with our mind?  Christ made Himself nothing and did not grasp equality with God.  The author of this book, Matthew, is convinced more than ever, that what the prophets of old have said has come true.  Daunting.  Matthew met Jesus and that changed everything.

5 Loaves and Two Fish.  Matthew 14:13.  They all ate and were satisfied from very little, very inconspicuous, very humble means.  Matthew knew this:  Christ came not merely to get people into heaven but to get heaven's kingdom----the way the Trinity relates----into people.  66LL.  He gives us the power not to grasp but to give to our husbands, our family, our community what He has already put into our hearts.  We have the very life of Christ.  Will we live to grasp or give?

PRAYER FROM PSALMS
May we not live this day, this hour, to be grasping ambitious people.  Psalm 127.
God, You have given us the best things.  May we open these fists of ours and live open-handed with eyes lifted up to You.

  1. O Lord, may we be the ones on whom seed was sown on the good soil, the people who hear the word and understand it; who indeed bear fruit and bring forth, some a hundredfold, some sixty, and some thirty.

  2. When I was little and my mom wanted to teach me to swim, the first thing she taught me was to float. She put her hands under me, and gradually let go. I stayed afloat, until I feared and looked down to find her hand, instead of trusting. She was teaching me to trust. She taught me to swim but first I had to learn to trust. Same lessons today if we want to grow our faith.

I've been doing a little water walking lately myself. And Jesus reminds me when I think I'm sinking, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?” Look at Me, not the waves. I will uphold you. I won't let you go under."
