Mark 16:9 Jesus appeared early on the first day of the week to the most unlikely of His followers, Mary Magdalene. You know, the one from whom He had cast out seven demons. A woman. How she must have felt? How do I feel about that? No one chooses me for things because of my inabilities in several ways. That's not how Jesus operates. When her friends heard the unbelievable news, they refused to believe it. Really, didn't they refuse to believe her. Why would Jesus appear first to a "no-name"? There are no big people and little people in God's economy. We are all of great unsurpassing value.
Here, Mary Magdalene, was a woman at rest from the demons in her life. "Internal rest releases servant activity." 66LL.
You know, Peter wanted Jesus to stop talking about the Cross. No---You will never have to suffer like that. But, here it is. The Suffering Servant. No genealogy. No Christmas Story. No one following a Star. That's the Book of Mark. "Learn the lesson: The King of kings and Lord of lords, came as a humble servant, the Ultimate Somebody disguised as a mere nobody. Consider that in your understanding of spiritual formation." 66LL
I wonder if our idea of spiritual formation is upside down. Those who are last will be first one day.
Live to serve. Live to love.
PRAYER FROM PSALMS
Ps 62
O my soul,
find my rest in God;
my hope comes from You, God.
My salvation & honor depend only on You, God.
Help me to trust in You at all times & pour my heart out to You.

"They *pressed into service a passer-by coming from the country, Simon of Cyrene (the father of Alexander and Rufus), to bear His cross."
ReplyDeleteAt first glance, we think blessed Simon had the privilege to serve our Lord at an opportune time. But Simon literally did what Jesus commands all of us to do. He took up the cross and followed Jesus. And at that pivotal moment, recorded into history for all time, he became the first.
As Jesus hangs on that wooden Cross today in our reading, let us remember What He did for us. May it fall fresh again the enormity of it all. The explicit horror of the thorn-crowned King dying a criminal's death for the sins of the world. The unfathomable goodness of the plan to save us all. The Son of God has done this for you, for me. Blessed be the Name of the Lord.
But Jesus made no further answer; so Pilate was amazed. Jesus in His wisdom remained silent, it was all about His Father's will not His. Imagine if we remain silent more often and let the Lord work.
ReplyDeleteSimon of Cyrene - literally picked up the Cross, let us remember we must die to self and carry the Cross each day and live each day unto the Lord.
Abba's Girl, So good to hear your comment! Been missing you! My Love, Bev
