Ezekiel 25:6 You have clapped with your hands, stamped with your feet, against what is good, what is right. Are we disturbed by the evil we see? Judgment starts with me. I can't deal with anyone's stuff but my own. "Silence in the face of evil is itself evil: God will not hold us guiltless. Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act." Dietrich Bonhoeffer.
PRAYER FROM PSALMS
Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth.
Keep watch over the door of my lips.
Do not incline my heart to any evil thing.
To practice deeds of wickedness with men who do iniquity.
Do not let me eat of their delicacies." Psalm 141:3-

Good questions for me this day, Bev. Too often I have a "live and let live" mentality or just think I am keeping the peace. But our silence is sometimes louder than our protest. To be quiet is to agree with evil, and we are called like Ezekiel to stand against evil, especially the ones who cannot stand for themselves against the atrocities directed against them.
ReplyDeleteThis Syria standoff we find ourselves in as a country perplexes me. Would it promote further evil? Would it quell the giant wave? I don't have wise answers, but I heard Sen. Lindsey Graham say "I cannot tell you why (people like Hitler and bin Laden embrace such extreme idealogy) other than there is good and evil in the world," Graham said. "And every time good people ignore evil, we wind up regretting it."
I don't want another war. But this is not the forum to discuss such issues. Just in light of today's reading, I see Ezekiel called to stand between good and evil. And maybe that is the question: Is God calling us to that place as individuals and as a nation?
As I was praying later in the day, I felt in my soul, what if it's not a matter of good and evil, but evil and more evil? #enddaysdilemmas
