"The unexamined life is not worth living." Socrates.
"For those in Christ--- you are fully seen and fully wanted by an inflexibly Holy God." L. Crabb
We take deep looks, vivid snapshots,
and think that what we're doing is right.
But how do we really know?
Whatever judgment we end up believing about ourselves,
about life, know this...Your eyes may conclude you are right.
But do you really know deep inside where it counts?
The LORD weighs our heart.
The hearts of men are in God's hand; the minds of men can be changed by a very Good God. He can incline us to that which we know not.
"The spirit of man is the lamp of the Lord,
Searching all the innermost parts of his being." Proverbs 20:27-28

Living this life well is not an end in itself. There is Something more than just making the right choices every day. "Prepare to confront your loneliness, your emptiness. It is the road to joy." I love what Robin Roberts said tonight on the ESPY's: "When fear knocks, answer the door." God is weighing hearts and directing them as a wonderful watercourse.

ReplyDeleteHearts are not purified by strong arming our wills into shape. Heart motives are tricky. We can even convince ourselves sometimes our motives are kinder than we dare to admit, but God knows the truth of the condition of our hearts. Jeremiah 17:9 says "that the heart is deceptive above all things and beyond cure."
So, what's a believer supposed to do with her wayward heart? There are entire self improvement books written about trying to please God with a disciplined obedience. However, if that obedience doesn't come from a place of trusting God, we again deceive ourselves that we are pleasing Him by our own actions.
God knows we don't need more rules. What we need is more love, more trust. Our authentic motives reveal the state of our heart. Are we trusting Him? Our actions, our thoughts will reveal this.
Upon examining our hearts and finding them not aligning with God's Word, we probably don't need a plan, we need a prayer. Surrender and trust will free us from us, and find us in Him. And to God be the glory for His merciful ways.
I love your words, Annette!
ReplyDeleteI feel I am living too fast yet freely holding on to a Good God.
Fragile yet faithful.
Faltering yet forgiven.
Faceless yet full of faith.
Fearful yet following.
PS - What in the world is this is a picture of???
ReplyDeleteI have never seen it. And it is not on my camera. I'm leaving it here. Fear lurking. No place in our lives!
