July 10 "Enclosed Behind & Before" Psalm 139:5

Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will revive me. 138:7

The LORD will accomplish what concerns me. 138:8

LORD, You have searched me and known me. 139:1

You understand my thought from afar. 139:2
You scrutinize my path & my lying down. 138::3
You have enclosed me behind and before,
And laid Your hand upon me. 139:5
If I would count your thoughts, they would outnumber the sand.
When I awake, I am still with You.

O the Wonder.
O the Awe of it All.
BB Warfield in a famous sermon delivered in 1911 said:
"Familiarity with the things of God will cause you to lose your awe."
Have we spent so much time in strategic local church ministry planning that we have lost our wonder at the Sovereign Planner Who guides our every minute.
Have we spent so much time unpacking the theology of Scripture that we have forgotten the end game of personal holiness.  Have we spent so much time in discipling others that we are no longer amazed at the reality of having been chosen to be a disciple of Jesus Christ.  [Paul David Tripp]

PRAYER FROM PSALMS
Psalm 138:3 Make each of us bold with strength in our soul.

Psalm 139:23-24 Search me, O God, and know my heart;
Try me and know my anxious thoughts;
And see if there be any hurtful way in me,
And lead me in the everlasting way.

  1. In today's readings the psalmists talk about unity, nightwatchmen, praising the Lord's works, idols, everlasting love, captivity, the Lord's favor and His omniscience presence.

    In a sense it is a cross section of Christian life. We ask the Lord for His favor. We resist idolatry and captivity. We press into His everlasting love and we know without His presence in our life there is no point in getting out of bed each day.

    Search me, O God, and know my heart;
    Try me and know my anxious thoughts;
    And see if there be any hurtful way in me,
    And lead me in the everlasting way.

    1. Such beautiful words, "the everlasting way."

      Waywardness is optional--yet our hearts are so prone to wander.
      Captivity is a choice--yet we feel trapped by an external force.
      Anxious thoughts consume us with "us" focus. He shows us it's about something so much bigger.

      The "everlasting way" shows us the way out, the way up, the joy of living in the Love zone of Christ and His Bigger Picture of Life and joy. It is a road of ascents when we are following His lead.

      Savior, lead me, lest I stray,
      Gently lead me all the way;
      I am safe when by Thy side,
      I would in Thy love abide.

      Lead me, lead me, Savior, lead me lest I stray;
      Gently down the stream of time,
      Lead me, Savior, all the way.

      Thou the refuge of my soul
      When life’s stormy billows roll;
      I am safe when Thou art nigh,
      All my hopes on Thee rely.

      Lead me, lead me, Savior, lead me lest I stray;
      Gently down the stream of time,
      Lead me, Savior, all the way.

      Savior, lead me, then at last,
      When the storm of life is past,
      To the land of endless day,
      Where all tears are wiped away.

      Lead me, lead me, Savior, lead me lest I stray;
      Gently down the stream of time,
      Lead me, Savior, all the way.

  2. As I read today's reading, I read the date '08 by Psalm 138:8. I had written out to the side that He had accomplished what concerned me. He was faithful and had strengthened me and my husband. We had closed the formal office the middle of May and things had fallen into place. I called and He answered. I have called the last two weeks and He has been faithful and has shown up and blessed me.Psalm 139:12..I have written beside that..we learn to trust Jesus in the "night times" and there is no darkness where He is!! He is light. A lot of times it seems that in the middle of the night is when your fears and concerns wake you up and you start to fret, but we need to remember that with God there is NO darkness and He never slumbers nor sleeps. He is always right there when we call.
