I will lift my eyes to the mountains ~ Psalm 121:1
But there is no help in the power & strength I find there.
My help comes from the LORD.
My transformed soul must quiet itself in my loss of what I loved,
My transformed soul must quiet itself in my loss of what I loved,
in my disappointment of what I had hoped for,
and in my suffering of what I had trusted.
My Help comes from the LORD Who made Heaven and Earth.
Be quiet, o my soul.
No mountain, no power, no strength, other than My LORD.
He Who keeps me will not slumber this night. Psalm 121:3.
Compose and Quiet my soul!
Compose and Quiet my soul!
I will not involve myself in great matters or in things too difficult for me. Psalm 127:2.
PRAYER FROM PSALMS
Psalm 28:2 I will find my help from Your Presence in my life, in my community, in my church. I will look to Your Sanctuary. Come LORD Jesus, be Present here. Make me like these mountains which cannot be moved. Psalm 125:2.

I've always loved the Psalms of Ascent. I don't know where to begin with today's reading. We are reminded our help comes from the Lord, we are to look to Him for deliverance, if not for Him we'd be swallowed alive. He surrounds us like the mountains surround Jerusalem. How comforting is that! He brings us out of captivity. He prospers us. He forgives. He caused the horn of David to spring forth, He prepared a lamp for His Anointed One.
ReplyDeleteO, that I press in and really live out - He is all I need.
in the Book of Common Prayer (Episcopal prayer book), the 121st Psalm is the prayer for travelers. On the road to Jerusalem, the Jews would sing this song as they made their pilgrimage to the holy city. Fortified by His Word, they prayed and were bathed in travel mercies by God.
ReplyDeleteWhether we actually on the road (as you have been, Bev!) or not, we are all weary travelers on a spiritual journey. Wherever we go, there He is. Reminds me of the Buddhist quote, wherever you go, there you are--but no. We have a better promise. Wherever we go, there He is also. He sees and protects today, tomorrow, and forever. Praise Him for His attending Presence wherever we are.
"The Lord will guard your going out and your coming in
From this time forth and forever.' Amen and Thanks be to our God.
