May 8 "We Do Not Walk Alone" I Chron 22:9

I will give him rest
from all his enemies
on every side
I Chron 22:9

Ghastly things were happening to the country of Israel.  The entire country was marked by David's sin.  Terrible judgment.  How did David move through what surrounded him on all sides with repentance.  His son would do the job that David was once called to do.  Solomon named.  Oh God! What does it look like to have rest on every side when our world is upside down because of our own choices?

David knew.  He let the Finisher of his faith write the script.  The Author that drew him to the place where he was that very day.  So where we have dismay, discouragement, despair, let us fall forward in the Hands of a very Good God, not into the hands of men.  Give us peace that passes what we understand this day.

It seems to me that my world thinks rest is freedom from pain.  When was David's life ever free of pain, even pain caused by his own heart?  As we walk in our own pain this very day, may we sense His Presence because we do not walk Alone.  That's it.  I am not Alone in this pain.  The Anchor of my soul, my Captain, is quite aware of all that surrounds me.  And He says:

"I invite you to delight in your distress.  Nothing else provides the same opportunity to move strongly and joyfully into life on the basis of My promises Alone, the promises of My Presence now and My satisfaction forever.  Seizing that opportunity will free you to passionately engage life for My purposes with no demands."  66LL
PRAYER FROM PSALMS
Psalm 62:5 "Find rest in God, o my soul, hope only in Him."
Dear God, would you help me to fall into Your Hands and let You work.
I see what others have that I don't.
I feel surrounded on all sides with pain, true or not.
I hear very little of what truly matters.
Help us all, O God, to enter a Rest we know not.
That it doesn't matter what is happening because ...
All that matters is that You walk alongside me, Your Presence.

  1. David left his son Solomon a legacy of godliness. He instructed his son to keep the statutes of the Lord and amassed materials for the House of the Lord.

What kind of legacy am I leaving?

    1. A good Father-Son Talk

David wanted to build a house for his good God, yet God said no, but promised the task and the ability to accomplish it to Solomon.

Within these verses, there is a good message to finish our lives well and encourage/exhort the next generation's faith.

      1. Seek the Lord's Face. He will instruct you how and when the work will be done. (Sometimes He'll even tell you added pluses like "Your son will do this for me, and he will reign in peace.")

      2. Surrender your own dream, knowing God's plan will be far better than any you can dream up.

      3. Prepare for that time with supplies and assistance. David, as a good parent, knew his son would be young and inexperienced so he gathered skill and supplies to help him.

      4. Talk to your son about his legacy, his work, and about Who is in charge. Look back over your history and tell of God's goodness to your family. Warn your son of how your own sin kept you from completing the work. Tell of His mercies. Tell of your own Divine encounters and how God instructed you. Remind your son to be diligent and careful concerning all of God's laws. Reveal to him that he will enjoy many blessings for obedience.

      4. Talk to the other leaders and remind them of God's faithfulness and give them singleness of purpose in the charge set before them. Above all, tell them to set their hearts and soul to seek the Lord, to be diligent and forthcoming, to work alongside their king and enjoy the blessing of God's promised peace.

      5. Trust God to take care of the details, the things unforeseen, and the outcome. Rest in knowing your son and your beloved country are in Good Hands Who will look after them.
