April 11 "Dispel This Darkness" II Samuel 23:29

Dispel my Darkness,
oh Deliverer of Dark.
Enlarge my silent steps,
Help me make a mark.
There is No One like God. "Who is this God, save the LORD"? (II Samuel 22:32). David is about to breathe his last air on earth. This man has seen mega signal mercies as he handled both a dispirited father-in-law trying to take David's life, and a rebellious son staging a coup to get rid of his dad. David wrote this song from his experiences: His God is a Rock. Fortress. Stronghold. Deliverer. Salvation. I look up into the heavens from where I sit, there is No One who cares for me, creates for me, carves out a path in my darkness, like t.h.i.s. God. In all our darkness, benighted at loss, my God is a Lamp, dispelling the dark night of the soul. II Samuel 23:29. I would have despaired had I not believed I would see His Goodness ~ Psalm 27:14. Whatever you face, our God teaches us to stay in the battle...and we are made ingenious. No other way to face this life that He has created but to sign on under His Love.

PRAYER FROM PSALMS
Psalm 27: 13-14 I would have despaired unless I had believed that I would see Your Goodness in this land of the living.  Enlarge my silent steps in this lonely dark, O Deliverer of my soul!

OVERVIEW: II Samuel 22-24

  1. Now these are the last words of David...As I read his last song, I pondered my last song. I can only hope it is a testament to God's mercy, grace, and everlasting love.

    1. Beautiful words today, I pondered my last song and it is:
      How Great Thou Art Hymn

      Lord my God! When I in awesome wonder
      Consider all the works thy hand hath made,
      I see the stars, I hear the mighty thunder,
      Thy power throughout the universe displayed;

      Refrain:
      Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee,
      How great Thou art, how great Thou art!
      Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee,
      How great Thou art, how great Thou art!

      When through the woods and forest glades I wander
      and hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees;
      when I look down from lofty mountain grandeur,
      and hear the brook, and feel he gentle breeze;

      Refrain

      And when I think that God his son not sparing,
      Sent him to die - I scarce can take it in,
      That on the cross my burden gladly bearing,
      He bled and died to take away my sin:

      Refrain

      When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation
      And take me home- what joy shall fill my heart!
      Then I shall bow in humble adoration
      And there proclaim, my God, how great thou art!

      Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee,
      How great Thou art, how great Thou art!
      Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee,
      How great Thou art, how great Thou art!

    2. I was 21 and heard this song for the first time. We were standing on the steps of the capitol in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I was contemplating what I would do with the Truth that had been layed in my lap. Thought I knew what was true---but it was religion, tradition, made-up by men. My heart was far off. The words and melody to this song sunk deep into my desperate heart. Will never forget it. It would be a couple of weeks later when I committed my life to Christ...forever. Love this song---it always brings me back to that time.

  2. David sinned and had to choose his punishment. In a way, it reminds me of parents telling their children to go cut a switch for their spanking. David chose well. He felt it safer to fall into the Hands of a merciful God than to deal with treacherous men, and David had known some treacherous men! But He had also known this merciful God Who took pity on him, and "was moved" by prayer to spare the pestilence.

    God is moved by prayer. MOVED. As in touched by, or is He moved as in changing what He had planned. Here, it appears both are true! David put his trust in His beautiful God and found favor in His Eyes.

    What a powerful song of David here. So much to claim and sing praises for--our own stories testify, too. What will be my song of my life say? If I had just one right now, it would be the single line from the hymn, "Redeeming Love has been my theme, and shall be 'till I die" And I pray it is very contagious.
