April 12 "A Sinking Feeling" I Kings 2:3

Sinking.  It's the way I feel this night of mine.
I know not what to do but to trust.
No one sees, no one knows, not this time.
God misses nothing, hold fast to Him, I must.
I come to this text for a glimmer of life.
And I find a great man struggling in strife.
Be strong o my soul, keep turning, heed this Word.
Walk before God in sincerity with resolution and zeal.
Listen to dying words and this Living Word of God.
Embrace this moment, abandon, let go of how you feel.

David was sinking (I Kings 1:2) in his multitude of sins, his decades of hardships, his miles of murders, his records of failure, his journals of betrayals.  He may have been king but his life was far from privileged ease.  And even in his dying days, he has to make a hard decision to pass on the crown in the way of what is right.  The beauty about David's life shines through---a repentant heart.  And he charges his son:  Be strong! Keep the charge of your God. Walk in His Ways.  Keep His Word.  Keep the testimony as it is written that you may prosper in all that you do and every which way that you turn. I Kings 2:3. These words of a dying father loom large.  Larger still is the Living Word of God.  Our God will not fail repentant sinners.  His Throne is established forever and ever.  No circumstance goes unnoticed.  Whatever fix you are in, one day will be righted.  We live to love a God Who has called us to Himself, His Throne, His Ways.  Amen!

PRAYER FROM PSALMS
Psalm 69 ~ God, save me. My troubles are like a flood. I'm up to my neck in them. I'm sinking in deep mud. I have no firm place to stand. I am out in deep water. The waves roll over me.  I'm worn out from calling for help.  Lord, you are the LORD who rules over all.  I'm a stranger to my brothers. I'm an outsider to my own mother's sons.  Lord, answer me because your love is so good. Turn to me because you are so kind. The LORD hears those who are in need. He doesn't forget his people in prison.  He will build the cities of Judah again. Yes, You will rebuild what is rejected and broken.
Establish your reign in our lives this day.  Amen.

  1. As David directed Solomon to carry on, living in careful attention to the Lord's Way, His Commandments, and in the spacious Grace and Mercy of our Lord, can we pray here today for this next generation to do so in the same way?

Let us pray for this in our own lives first, to finish well, and for this next generation to carry on with diligence to His Word, and full of love for His mercy and grace.

May He establish His reign in our lives and that of our sons and daughters this very day. Amen.

    1. As the song says.."may those who come behind us find us faithful". May the cry of each of our hearts be to finish well, anyone can start well, but the test really is to finish well. May we impart it to our children and our grandchildren and IF He should tarry very much longer, may they pass it on and on and on. How I desire His reign to be in my heart and life today so strongly that my children can see it with just a glance and my grandchildren know in their hearts what I believe is true and complete.

  2. David's instructions to Solomon were words of wisdom. May we endeavor to live out our lives according the Lord's way to not only honour Him but also to reflect Christ to others.
