I Thes 1:9 "Receive the Word in Much Affliction" (July 27)

Oh, that it might be said about our lives that the Gospel came to us not only in word but also in power and with full conviction.  I am wrestling tonight with being needed.  C.S. Lewis sent out a tweet today that we need to get over the need to be needed and that it is the hardest thing to deal with.  I wonder why.  We are made for community.  Our Father is how we pray---not My Father.  May I know this weekend that kind of resurrection power and full conviction.  Receiving the word in much affliction with the joy of the Holy Spirit.  People just don't want you to suffer---so to hear that we must receive the word in much affliction is eye opening to me.

We serve the true and living God.  So grateful to Him this wedding weekend that His Grace upon Grace turned my heart from idols to God, to serve and wait for Him. I Thes 1:9.  May we wait well.  Our God delivers well.

  1. "Sing to him, sing praises to him;
tell of all his wondrous works!"

God has showed off so much in my life these past couple of weeks that it's impossible to NOT give God the credit. I feel like I could list a million reasons, but I'll tell you just a few.
    1. God gave us a sweet place to enjoy many moments in the coming years.
    2. My son did not lose power while taking the bar. (I heard him give God the credit--> huge!)
    3. My daughter somehow made it to town when almost all flights were cancelled out of NY last night.

Pearls, I would love to hear 3 things you are most thankful for today!

Bev, I know you are going to have the best weekend ever! Enjoy every second!

  2. "We give thanks to God always for all of you, constantly[a] mentioning you in our prayers, remembering before our God and Father your work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ."

    1. I'm giving thanks today for all of you, remembering you in my prayers this morning.

    2. Also grateful for a faithful few that continue to promote God and His Grace like Mr. Cathy and Chick-FilA, Mike Hucabee, and all the others who go against the popular flow to stand up for what is right, for what is still sacred.

    3. I'm thankful for rest after a busy season, for peace, for family time, for reflection time.

Bev, our kids grow up so fast, don't they. You are so appreciated here. Your daily reflections and faithfulness right here on the Pearl blog even on the day you are putting together a wedding speaks volumes of your priorities; "your work of faith, labor of love and steadfastness." Hold fast to Him and celebrate your beautiful Brooke as you walk her down the aisle. May they all be sweet tears of joy and gratitude for her life and this meaningful life passage of marriage.

  3. Yay,,,,internet connection after being off all week. Praying the problem is finally solved. Missed being able to read the readings and what everyone wrote.

Three things I am thankful for tonight.

    1. Having internet access again. Feel cut off from the world. Not really cut off but felt like it.

2.Cooler temps today...has been way TOO HOT.

    3. The faithfulness of Bev to read every day and post her thoughts no matter what is happening in her life. So faithful.

Bev, praying that He will shower all of you with much grace and the power of His Holy Spirit holding each one of you and spilling out and overflowing to all of those who are present. May the whole day be a great witness to our Lord.
