2Kings 19:14 "Spread Out That Letter" (July 17)

The phone call was not good news today. Our only car cannot be fixed to meet inspection even though it limps around just fine. I was on my way to a wedding in Dallas, my daughter's.  It was one more piece of information that startled my plans. I'll get there but not sure how.  There's way more going on in my own heart than a vehicle loss.  So, I welcome you to do what I just did...

Smooth out the paper.  Dip the ink.  Whisper a prayer before you begin.  Record all that concerns you on your journey this day, this chapter on a pristine sheet or two.  He holds it all.  Spread it before the LORD. 2 Kings 19:14.  And pray...

O Lord, the God of Israel, enthroned above the cherubim, you are the God, you alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth; you have made heaven and earth. Incline your ear, O Lord, and hear; open your eyes, O Lord, and see; and hear this . . . and save us, please, from what has befallen on us, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you, O Lord, are God alone.  II Kings 19:15-16.

Then, rise and
Glory in the Glorious
Love only that which is Lovely
Value only that which has Supreme Value

Only one thing counts:
Faith Working Through Love
Serving One Another Through Love
Keeping in step with the Spirit of Love.  Gal 5:25

That others may know that You are The God, You Alone!

  1. Hezekiah's relationship with God was so intimate. He seems like such a meek man, and he found God's favor because of his hope was in the Lord. He layed it all out before God. He sought His divine intervention. He knew he had no power himself. He grieved over the news, but took it to the One who could do something about it. And the Lord heard his prayer.

Walking with the Spirit means keeping in step with the Spirit. I love that word picture today in Galatians. For me, it means keeping up with the Spirit as He goes before me. Not dragging behind in a disobedience and laziness. And learning the unforced rhythms of grace and rest, too. For He goes before us, paving the way, just as He sent His angel to fight for Hezekiah and Judah. Let us keep step and let the Spirit lead the dance. And while we're dancing, let's listen to the Music.

  2. I too, loved the way Hezekiah laid it all out before the Lord. What a beautiful picture. I have a big concern before me that only time will tell what the outcome will be. It has to do with the new Health Care Law and how it could affect my future health. I was all worked up about it last night, have laid it all before the Lord today and leaving my concerns in His hands.

Bev, I pray that the Lord has made a way for you to get to Dallas and that you are able to keep your peace and be calm through all of the of Brooke's wedding. What a blessed time for you and your family. May all things fall into place for you and yours and it be a time of joy like you have never known before. Brings back memories of my daughter's wedding 17th years ago.....can't possibly be that long ago!!! I still have such sweet memories. May that happen for you. I'm still praying for all that concerns you.

  3. Haven't been to the post office in quite a while since I don't have a car. Went this afternoon and there it sat in my post office box. A letter. Not good news. In fact, all I could in my disbelief is lay it before the LORD and spread that typed official letter flat out like my emotions. My God has not written the end of this chapter of my life. He holds it. I am being held. So, I'll keep in step with the Spirit sometimes limping like I am today and sometimes soaring like I might be tomorrow. Don't quite know how to get out of the mess I am in but I know this. I can boast of my weaknesses. I am being held tight. This is my God's care and may He open all of our eyes to see what really surrounds us. See you tomorrow. The sun will come up.
