NUMBERS Take-Aways

FAMILY - All these sacrifices shadow our privilege of having a relationship with God. All these laws, these words spoken, protect and provide and prepare the family of God. Numbers 6:24-26 blessing the family where it counts. Put God’s name on the people so all will see and believe.

HEARING GOD’S VOICE - Numb 7:8-9. Moses entered the tent of meeting to speak with God but it was the audible Voice of God that Moses heard first. Frederick Buechner writes: ‘The Bible uses hearing, not seeing, as the predominant image for the way human beings know God. They can only listen to time for the sound of God—-in the good times and bad times of their own lives for the words God is addressing to, of all people, them.”

COVENANT - God guides these people to the Promised Land by caring and loving them in every detail the whole way. Forty years. God set His Love on them. Steadfast Love. Numbers 14:18. The people moved with the visible overshadowing cloud and fire by nights.

WILDERNESS - Homeless. A place of testing. No exemptions here. Accompanied by the Almighty. It was symbolic of God’s presence with them. And God stayed with rebellious people. In Numbers 14:1-3, the whole community wailed all night long. If only … . Never live on old manna. All these stories written down as warnings 1Cor 10:11-12…be careful that you don’t fall for the counterfeit holiness.

LEADERSHIP - Here is a pivotal moment in Moses’ life—-Numbers 27:12-17—he will die on the Moabite range of mountains and never set foot in the Promised Land because Moses did not treat God as holy. Moses embraces God’s edict and fervently prays for the appointment of his successor.  Moses didn’t live for the temporal Promised Land. Moses profoundly lived for the Eternal God.  Moses cared more about the people than the promise. He didn’t demand a different ending to his journey. When things go right and when things go wrong, be like Caleb: Follow Fully.
