August 22 "Part With Our Sins" Micah 1-7
How do we find favor with God and man?
He has shown all you people what is good.
And what does the LORD require of you?
To act justly and
to love mercy and
to walk humbly with your God.
Micah 6:8
The prophet answers his own question.
These hearers superstitiously believed this:
Repentance toward God and faith in Jesus Christ
came through their sacrifice. The prophets were not
protesting living a life of sacrifice.
They were protesting people making a religion
of doing justly, doing mercy, doing walking humbly with God.
If we try to do these requirements,
it will bring into full view our inadequacies to do so
and the gifts of grace we so need.
There is not one who can meet these requirements.
Anything that brings us peace apart from God is not right.
We have to part with our sins and get right with God.
Are we willing to part with what we hold in our hand?
"The good that God requires of us is not the paying a price
for the pardon of sin and acceptance with God, but love to Himself!"
Matthew Henry
