To his sin he adds rebellion;
scornfully he claps his hands among us
and multiplies his words against God.” Job 34:37
Elihu accuses Job of multiplying his words against God, adding to his rebellion. Can we question God? Can we do it in such a manner of meekness? God is not the delivery man nor the traffic copy nor our kindly grandfather. Yet Job's friends reduced him to size---reduced the role of God to fit their answers. You see, suffering with definition and explanation gives you control---a false hope of control. Suffering with no definition, no explanation, is where we find our faith in God. May we listen well in suffering.
