God listens to Elijah - I Kings 17:22
And, Elijah witnessed breath poured into the son.
Elijah listens to God - I Kings 19:13
And, Elijah found God in the "low whispers."
The common natural way of providing for the earth---rain.
It dried up.
The uncommon Providential way of providing for Elijah---ravens.
Never dried up.
Do I realize that the Providential Hand of God is moving in uncommon ways in my life this very day?
The vilest of creatures took care of Elijah, not the kings.
And Elijah was a on a shelf for more than a year
The man who could breathe life into sons.
Patiently waiting on a Good God!!!
Eating from mouths of birds.
Trusting God's timing.
Under the Care.
Such a moving story to know God uses the lowly widow. She took Elijah at his word even before feeding her own family in famine. And that one act opened the jar for Elijah to feed the widow's family for more than two years.
COME BOLDLY: Timeless Prayers
Oh Father, Psalm 46:4 says that there is a river whose streams make glad the city of God. Ever running water. The Living Water refreshes and consoles all our days. May we know it deeply today as we face difficult moments that Your Whispers may be heard loud. Your overflowing water all over our parched lives. We need you so!

Once again we see the humble not those filled with pride advancing God's plan. Lord, show me where there is pride in my life so that I may repent.
ReplyDeleteJust when she thinks "I don't have enough to keep us alive," God says to the poor widow "Share the little you have." And God pours blessing into their lives through Elijah. God's ways are such a glorious mystery.
ReplyDeleteWhy we go through the trials we do in this life isn't all due to sin but so that God's glory may be shown.
When things look the worst, sometimes we are sitting pretty for God's miracle. And may we give Him credit for it! May we not miss it. May we testify to His great love for us.
Lord, thank you that through a depressed yet devoted man like Elijah we can see Your Plan. Help us to trust that even in scarcity, You are all we need. Help us to feel the richness of that very place. You are our Great Provider. Empty us of us that we may experience this true vulnerable abundance. Amen.
Annette, many of today's Christians think hard is bad and of the devil, today's reading reminds us that is not the case. We must remember we are being refined to bring God glory.
