March 28 "Rest on Every Side" Joshua 19-21

Last.  Rest.  Promises.
Joshua receives the last of the land not the first.
Joshua receives a rest in his soul that most men know not.
The LORD gave them rest on every side just as He had sworn to their fathers (Joshua 21:44)---the men who never saw the Promised Land.  But their children did!  And that was His Plan.  For not One of His Good Promises failed.  Not in their wandering wilderness fathers' lives; not in their own wavering wonderful lives; not even in our own world of woe & wonder.  God is on the move---then and now.

How beautiful is the heart of Joshua, the son of Nun.  "When they had finished distributing the several territories of the land as inheritances, the people of Israel gave an inheritance among them to Joshua."  Josh 19:49.  They gave Joshua the city that he asked for---and they gave it to this leader, last! It's still a gift whether first or last.  And gifts define nothing---they are just freely given. Charity! Our rest is not found in our good experiences, our cavalier merit, our pristine morals.  No, rest is freely given in this present moment---that is, if we are present ourselves.  So, Come! Charity for All.

COME BOLDLY:  Timeless Prayers
Come!  You've been invited to a rest.
Thank you Father for this admonition to rest:  Come.
Not:  Learn.  Do.  Obey.  Believe.  Trust
Just:  Come.
I can do that today, God.  I can come to You for the rest that I need.  Rest from a world that has "missed" me, and doesn't care.  Our undying gratitude for all You are doing and working in this moment, behind-the-scenes.

  1. That same rest is available to us. Freely given. Free, but not without Cost. Rest on every side. I'll have a helping of that right now. Thank You, Lord! Greg is doing well and got to come home yesterday, and this grandma needs a few days to recover. It is a privilege to work, but it is a comfort to rest, knowing God is taking care of everything. Everything.

Rest is harder and harder to find in this spinning world. I am pretty sure busyness is the devil's favorite tool, especially Christians who he can't make bad.

Lord, You offer an unexplainable rest right in the middle of our crazy lives. We can walk calmly amid the noise, and find our peace only in You. Thank You, thank You for the peace where we can rest knowing that everything is in Good Hands when it is turned over to You.
