March 24 "A Sword in Christ's Hand" Joshua 5-8

As soon as all the kings of the Amorites who were beyond the Jordan to the west, and all the kings of the Canaanites who were by the sea, heard that the Lord had dried up the waters of the Jordan for the people of Israel until they had crossed over, their hearts melted and there was no longer any spirit in them because of the people of Israel. Josh 5:1. They lost hope. And so many this day have lost hope and shifted their attention away from God to live the good life here. How could this ever be all there is? And the wrath of God advances then, now. What will we do with what God is stirring up?

And the peoples hearts melt again---became as water when their neighbors were killed at Ai. Josh 7:5. And Joshua falls on his face. And God says, "Get up!" Go do the work, Joshua. There are "devoted things" among them that are not devoted to God. Consecrate the people.

And God Himself appears to Joshua with a sword drawn in his Hand. He appears as a warrior. Christ will be to us what we need. Joshua needed this picture to encourage him to keep on fighting the daunting road ahead. God promised Joshua that he was not Alone. What do you need to see in God's Face toward you this day? I so need His Mercy. Beleaguered over here. Like Joshua, may we move on by God's Presence and Power. Col 1:29.

COME BOLDLY: Timeless Prayers
O God, be to us this day what we need.

    1. Joshua asks, "And what will You do for Your great Name?

Glory is at stake. Joshua loses his first battle. Then he finds out the cause. There is sin among them. God isn't looking for power but for purity. Obedience and purity magnify His Name. God's Hand will be on the Israelites when they look to Him for every move and follow His plan down to the details.

Get up. Consecrate yourselves. You cannot stand before your enemies while there is sin among you. Get rid of the idols. Clean up your act. Get up!

Bev, you ask what we need to see in God's Face toward us today. Our counsel and our healing and our wholeness is found right here at His Feet each morning in His glorious Word.

My friend Jean shared this with me from Kay Arthur.

"The Word of God is your textbook for life. His words are our counselors---Divine therapy for all that ails us. And the more time you spend studying His precepts and applying them to your life, the healthier and stronger you are going to become as a human being. His words are spirit and life--and as we study together you'll see how they'll breathe new life into your inner man."

      1. "What will You do for Your Great Name?" God will go to any length to make you wholly His, a holy people. And I am watching Him perform His Work in you, day by day. Love the way you love.

    2. When Israel loses the battle, Joshua immediately seeks the Lord. He then follows the Lord's instructions. Searching clan by clan until he finds the culprit which is a huge endeavor. How often, we desire a quick result from the Lord instead of methodically checking all areas of our life to see what may be ot of balance or where we allow sin to enter.

Lord, may we seek You each morning and throughout the day.
