James 4:5 "God yearns jealously over the spirit that he has made to dwell in us”? He gives more grace. He knows our frame!
God is looking for us---Genesis 3:9--- to make a covenant between Him and our family. Be the Lord's people. So, Jehoiada, the priest, took a chest and bored a hole in the lid. 2 Kings 12:9. The word "bored" is used in other places in the Bible to describe deep affection and dedication. They used the chest to treat those right who had "oversight of the temple."
King Jehoash was very young and God mercifully provided those around him to guide him to do what was right in the sight of God. Jehoash was willing to let them "reason" with him, James 3:17.
The temple needed repair. The same in all of our lives. God intends that those who have power over us, use it for good, to redress the temple in me and you.
So, it's the 23rd year of Jehoash's reign---did he look succesful by the world's standards? Not really. Not much had happened. That's when the priest bore the hole in the lid. Surrender. And God stirred people to give. Stir us all, Oh God. Whether it takes 23 years for something to move us or 23 days. You are intimately acquainted with all our ways---may they glorify You, not for our own purposes, but for Your Glory!
Jesus watched the rich rulers in the temple in His day, stuffing the chest with lots of money. What we stuff the chest with, this day, is under the Watchful Eye.
Thank you Lord for your reminders of when I need to make some repairs, and clean out a few things. Thank you that submitting means freedom, rest and sweeter relationship with You.
