2 Kings 7:6 and James 3:17 "Don't Pillage---Run Like the Wind" (July 8)

Am I open to wrestle with tightly-held ideas I own.  We all live in an hour glass.  Standing in the sea of time.  What will we do with what stirs this present moment?

James 3:17 Wisdom from Above is open to reason. Bitter jealousy in our hearts and selfish ambition in our actions---what stirs within us?  Will we invite our friends to reason with us in the quiet side of our back porches?

The prophets of old could hold no selfish ambition and honor God's Word.  They did not covet what others had---they let go to let God run His world.

God leads Elisha's servants to prophesy the downfall of the House of Ahab.  Proclaim that the dogs will eat Jezebel so she cannot have a decent burial.  Then run like the wind after you tell them!!!!

These prophets spoke wrongly or rightly and it could cost them their lives.  But, they were committed to risk it all for their God.  What kind of ambition do I entertain? Do I know this throw-it-all-to-the-wind philosophy of life?  Can I welcome disruption of my frozen routine, of my dogmatic systematic theology?

God leads lepers unknowingly, unexpectedly to Syria.  2 Kings 7: 6 ~ For the Lord had made the army of the Syrians hear the sound of chariots and of horses, the sound of a great army, and they fled for their lives.  Amazing story!  Why am I surprised at God?  Even the lepers could not pillage the Syrian possessions---they wanted to do right in midst of their own tragedy.  God honors that kind of sacrifice.  Don't take what is not yours, Bev, even if you think you need it.  Leave it.

So inspired by the prophets of old and their love for their LORD.  Oh, to tell the truth and run like the wind in righteousness!  The wind of the Spirit of God!
