Rend your Heart not your Garments. Does a fish know when it is wet? Same for modern man born in the past 200 years. It is hard for an arrogant person to know that he is arrogant toward God. David should rended his heart. In 2 Samuel 11:1, David decided to take the high road. He had just killed 40,000 horsemen in the last battle. He was reeling off success. But in the spring, when kings go to battle, David stays home. Arrogance. And he connives how to get rid of Uriah so he can have his wife. Unbelievable jargon.
John 3:8 says that for those of us born of the Spirit of God, and David was, the wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. Same with all of us who follow Him. Listen for the Wind. Rend your heart. And go with God.
Even David did wrong in the Eyes of the Lord. Killing Uriah displeased the Lord, of course. But what I love in this story is David's example of how to respond when we've sinned.

2. He believed God would deal with him.
3. He suffered the consequences.
4. He mourned his loss.
5. He picked himself up, broken hearted, and moved forward with his life, remembering the Lord.
The Lord gives him another chance. Solomon, beloved of the Lord, is born.
Life is full of opportunities to return to the Lord. Sin is everywhere, and God is waiting for His children to return.
"Return unto me and I will return unto you."
PS And don't you love Nicodemus coming to Jesus at night with his curious heart. Wonder if he was losing sleep over his burning questions. Wonder if he was just scared to be seen with Jesus...Nighttime in his heart as well.

ReplyDeleteI am touched that Nicodemus came at nighttime. "Nighttime in his heart as well" and in mine too. His Light pushes out all those dark corners. Picturing Nic scared to death but so wanting more. I'm kind of scared in my present circumstance but I refuse to live in darkness. Loved the thought. Bev
