Josh 1:8 and Luke 9:5 "Shake the Dust Off" (April 5)

I remember the spot where I was sitting---Verizon Wireless on Bryant Irving Street---when a dear friend called me to say that she heard I was moving to Austin. She told me that she hoped that I would "mind my own business" in A-town. "Stop sharing all those stories about things that happen to you---no one wants to hear it." Plenty tears fell as I sat on a bench in front of rows of cell phones for sale. And I mulled over the words way-too-long. Everyone hopes that their friends sift through their stories and blow away the chaff. And I reflect as I read words written centuries ago in Joshua 1:8. Mull over the Word, Bev. Let go of what others think. Nothing more important than chewing on God's Word not what I have done right or wrong. My High God is saying in Joshua 1:8 ~ "Be Strong and Courageous. Do not be dismayed." Shake the dust off your feet (Luke 9:5) whenever discouraging comments come---and they will---and move in love. "This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous ... the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

  1. How we each should want to follow and obey Him. May His Word be in my mouth so that I may speak it to everyone that I meet. May the law of kindness be there first, so that I may truly share it with family and friends. We are often more kind to others than our immediate family. As Christians we so often shoot our wounded. I am sorry that happened to you Bev, I am glad that you have put it into perspective, for she was being very unkind to you. Personally, I love to hear how Christ has moved in others lives and that means they have to share what has happened to them. I think that we can then truly "see" how He has moved and worked and be encouraged in our own lives that He can do for us what He has done for others.

What a promise of blessing, that IF we will mediate on His Word, day and night He will make our way prosperous....not materially but spiritually.

May He put a Word in my mouth today and IF He so chooses to have me lead a group on Tuesdays, may it be His Word that comes from my mouth and not my empty words.

  2. Mary Lou, you put into words so gently and kindly what I want to say. I learn much from your gentle spirit.

When I read Bev's post today, I wanted to tell her, "That woman is not your friend". My thoughts are still so often of the world, I guess I still have a long way to go to become Kingdom worthy.

Bev, I can't imagine what I would do without your comments everyday.
You have such a beautiful and total honesty.
    Love you so!
