Job 6:25 and Matt 8:34 "Upright Words" (January 11)

Job 6:25 How forceful are upright words!
But what does reproof from you reprove?

Matthew 8:34 When they heard the
words of Jesus, they asked him
"please leave our region."

The words spoken by Job's friends
fell on "despairing wind" searching for God,
there was no Life in the words.

The words spoken by Jesus
fell on empty hearts
not seeking anything but
their own.

God, change our hearts
that Upright Words flow
and land on lives You love.

  1. Oh, how God is speaking to me and He is so faithful. I have been seeking Him so hard for a loved one and words to say that would open the eyes of my loved one. It keeps coming back to me to be silent and let God do the work and God have the responsibility of taking this loved one to the wood shed, that He will do a much better job than I ever would and with much better results. That my job is to watch and pray and pray in earnest and only speak when the Lord prompts me to speak. There is no Life in my words but there is oh so much Life in His words. He keeps showing me that my own heart is not clean enough to have Upright words enough to change my loved one. He so spoke through Bev's last words...."God change our hearts that Upright words flow and land on lives You love." For, He loves our loved ones far more than we do.

He gave me encouragement today from our reading and then from the words that He gave Bev. We truly need one another to encourage and lift each other up each and every day.

  2. Amen, Mary Lou.

God does great things, unsearchable, marvelous things without number. (Job 5)

The best place to take my complaints is to God. He is my strength, He has answers, He is my teacher, He is my vindicator (Job 6) He can fill my emptiness (Job 7).

    Follow Jesus. (Matt. 8)

I, too, along with Bev ask "God, change our hearts that Upright Words flow and land on lives You love."

  3. Mary Lou, I was at such a loss for words myself and thought: "this is probably my worst post yet." But this isn't about our words but about the motives of our hearts. Words don't change anyone. God does. And He uses words and situations and even bad people to speak to us. I just love your heart for your children! May the Living Word continue to invade us all!

  4. Would you all please pray for me? I fell off the exercise equipment at my step aerobics last night and landed on my tail bone. Actually, I propelled through the air landing on my back. Pretty sore today and walking rather s-l-o-w-l-y. Supposed to pick up Britt in Dallas tomorrow night but a 7-hour car drive from 4-7pm doesn't sound inviting to me. I so want to be there when he arrives from Bolivia. Pray that I make it. Thankyouthankyou!

  5. Job 7:11b

    Job speaks.

"I will speak in the anguish of my spirit; I will complain in the bitterness of my soul."

No hope. Job is without hope.
    All comfort escapes him.
    God is silent.
His friends are no comfort in this valley of the shadow of death.

He knows His God is allowing this darkness. Understanding escapes him.

He seeks the drowning pool of death. His only escape from the unending agony.

Can you picture just a glimpse of what Christ endured for us on the cross?

As I read these verses and sense the depth of suffering, I see Jesus on the cross bleeding and in agony, IN MY PLACE.

But even more convicting. I feel the loss of companionship with God that Job was experiencing, AND THAT JESUS BORE IN MY PLACE.

Tears are ours to shed here on earth. Once in heaven, we will weep no more.

    Job suffers.
    I weep.

    And TRUTH speaks John 3:16.

“For God so loved the world,

that he gave his only Son,

    that whoever believes in him
    should not perish
    but have eternal life."
    Selah.
