Gal. 2:14 - Peter's conduct was not in step with the Truth of the Gospel.
Fourteen years later, and Paul is going back to Jerusalem to set the Gospel before Peter. I wonder who is setting the Gospel before me? And, am I setting the Gospel directly before any?
In the context of Galatians chapter one, concerning seek man's approval, here is Peter seeking the approval of the Jews. Peter was sent to the Jews; Paul was sent to the Gentiles. God was at work in both. Peter fellowshiped with the uncircumcised Gentiles and was afraid when the circumcision party arrived, so he drew back from the Gentiles. Paul called his hand. Peter could have continued fellowship with the uncircumcised Gentiles. Righteousness is not through the law. Peter was seeking the approval of man.
Gal. 2:20 - I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live---the hidden life of the believer. Matthew Henry calls it: "sin mortified; grace quickened." Sin, error, ignorance, wickedness---anything that makes us walk away from our Christ is to be crucified. For we believe that not only was Christ crucified, giving himself for us, but I am crucified with Him. Dependence on Him. Grace overwhelming. God's Grace is not earned with what I do. Is my conduct in step with the Truth of the Gospel?
Just woke up from a 12-hour nap! I have been sick this week. Came home from school yesterday, our 32-year anniversary, and crawled under the covers. Grateful to God for his Grace that has covered all our years. Grateful for a man who has been so faithful and true and committed first to God and to me.
ReplyDeleteWhat a good focus today, Bev. Your words again convict and save me with one swoop. We must continually check our conduct to see if it is in step with Truth.
ReplyDelete"I do not nullify the grace of God, for if righteousness were through the law, then Christ died for no purpose.
Grace, alone. Thanks be to God for a Plan for which I can be saved under!
Bev, I saw on FB your comment about sleeping and feeling under the weather. I hope you are feeling better and am lifting you in prayer today. Bet you're glad it's Friday.
