John 7:37-38 "Jesus stood up and cried out, "If anyone THIRSTS, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, 'Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.'"
Picture this: He stands up and cries out. No calm teaching here. Passionate. The Last Day of the Feast of the Tabernacles where they would pour out water from the Pool of Siloam as libation---while Jesus is crying out COME TO ME and BELIEVE the Scriptures. I'll give you living Water. I'll give you the Holy Spirit.
God's Words are not idle words, they are our very life, Deut 32:46-47. Reading the Word of God is no formula for growth but it is TRANSFORMING if we believe these words. I'm not the same person I was last month! I'm shaking my head! He is the LIVING WORD.
They are indeed transforming words...I am not the same person I was last month or maybe even last week. How the Word does sustain and fortify and keep a believer alive.
ReplyDeleteSo thankful,Bev that you had such a good road trip with Britt, not so thankful about the breakdown, but thankful that you are okay. Praying for you this morning....safe trip back to Austin.
"Who do you say that I am?"
ReplyDeleteThe world didn't end yesterday, nor did I think it would, yet some feared, some were angry, some scoffed, some prayed, yet none knows the Day or the Hour. Lots of evidence says it will be soon, and we should be ready, but what does ready look like?
I was thinking last night that very little has to be done to be ready. Our work is to believe in Jesus as Lord. Our job is to keep coming back, keep our list of sins short by asking forgiveness, and to love as He loves. One thing I hope to do better before I die is to love better, more like Him.
"Let all who thirst come unto Me"
We drink of the Fountain by faith and are relieved. We first recognize we are thirsty, guilty, deserving hell. We thirst for deliverance. And we know a full supply of grace, pardon, mercy in the Living Waters--supply of pardon, mercy, and grace in Christ crucified. In coming to Him, we find relief. To feel the sinfulness of sin and to thirst, we find our answers in Him. "Come to Me, all who thirst, and I will give you Living Water."
The Lord Jesus then says, "He that believes on Me, from within him will flow rivers of living water." We shall not only have enough for the needs of our own souls, but shall become fountains of blessings to others.
Such good news for this parched soul...such grace for each day to live and die unencumbered.
Pour the Living Waters of Your Love out of us, Lord. The world and we ourselves need You desperately.
