Matthew 26:31 "You Will All Fall Away" (February 12)

Matthew 26:29 The Blood of the Covenant, the forgiveness of sin, "I will drink this new with you in My Father's Kingdom." Let that sink in my soul...Jesus will drink this new with me and you. But before that Marriage Supper, I must live what vows I've taken here. And I read Matthew 26:31 "You will all fall away"...the disciples and me and you in all our vows.  Peter says never.  But in about 24 hours, something trumped Peter's holy living.  What trumps holiness for me?

Joni Eareckson Tada writes about her present struggle with breast cancer:
"The physical body counts but it does not trump the health of my soul.
When people ask about healing, I'm less interested in the physical and
more interested in healing in my heart.
Pray that I get rid of my lazy attitude about God's Word and prayer,
       of bruite pride---
       Set me free from Self-Centeredness."

  2. Surrounded by the wonders of God's hand, Mike and I are in Puerto Rico. Yesterday we visited the El Yunque Rain Forest. We marveled at the diversity of the ecosystem as we trudged up and down mountains, across streams, feeling awe of creation. We joked that a gas explosion has never created even a tiny rock, let alone the universe. God is everywhere, a living breathing presence. He was there when Christ was betrayed, He was there when Mike and I got lost in the rainforest, yesterday. We rejoice that we are found, relieved we have hope for each day and the promise we will one day live with Him forever.
    Praise be to God!

  3. "...nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will."

Since I've been reading Ann's Voskamp's book I have really been trying to be thankful, and am becoming more and more aware... especially in the not-so-fun moments. I'm finding myself quietly asking God, "Do you really expect me to be thankful right now?" and He continues to say, "Yes" to me. That alone is life-changing.

Have fun, Bev! It'll be fun looking for you guys on Wednesdays with Beth! Please send my love to all of them.

Jan, how exciting! I'm SO glad you found your way out of the rainforest! Take lots of pictures!

  4. As many times as I have read these verses, they still hold such power to pierce my soul. No wonder hymns and painting have been inspired by these words. Something inside me calls to deeper places with these words. I'm not sure what to do with it, but just sit with Him a while, watching, waiting--singing low "Tis midnight and on olive's brow..."

Most of us have good intentions, but we fall asleep, fall away, betray Him with our lives. We all are either Judas or Peter--the only difference is Peter sought sorrowful repentance and experienced glorious reconciliation.

Sitting with Him this morning, watching, praying...

"So, could you not watch with me one hour? "Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak."

  5. Lost in the Rainforest? So glad you were found, Jan!

Tell all of them HI for us, Bev! What a blessing for you on this weekend before Valentine's Day. You are much loved by the King.

Angie, her book is life-changing. And today we read about "communion." Eucharisteo...to be grateful...give thanks.

    Eucharisteo precedes the miracle.

    Ummm.

    These verses today are weighty.

Annette, what you say is perfect ponderings. He wants us to commune with Him. He wants us to remember Him. He wants the church as whole to remember Him with communion.

Can we not sit with Him for one hour, no words, just communion.

I really do shut up sometimes. I zip my lips and let Him speak.

He fills to overflowing this cup I hold today. And I am waiting to drink it new with Him in His Kingdom. There is NO celebration until we are face-to-face.

    Longing for the eternal Bridegroom.

29 "I tell you I will not drink again of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom."

  6. Beth and James brought God to us...His Kingdom within us. I'll post about it in about one hour (on my other blog). God spoke to deep places in my heart during the taping.

  7. Jan, Lost in the rainforest is like wow! So glad you are found! How wonderful for you, a soul who deeply experiences God's beauty, to witness the canvas of the pattering and painting of rain. Oh tell us how you saw Him there.
