221 - "The Pride of Life" Jeremiah 9-12

This is not just another set of rules.
Obedience gives us access to the God of the Angel Armies.  "Obey what I tell you. Do exactly what I command you. Your obedience will close the deal. You'll be mine and I'll be yours.”  Jer 11:4

This is not just when we have a crisis.
God wants our attention all the time. And as for you, Jeremiah, I don't want you praying for this people. Nothing! Not a word of petition. Indeed, I'm not going to listen to a single syllable of their crisis-prayers."  Jer 11:14

This is not just religion and going to church.
God examines the heart. What business do the ones I love have figuring out how to get off the hook? And right in the house of worship! Do you think making promises and devising pious programs will save you from doom? Do you think you can get out of this by becoming more religious?  Jer 11:15

His disposition is about to grew even worse. What he is up against is not dissipating. He is forced to answer himself. And what does he hear? The very voice of Jehovah in his innermost parts. You won't make that horse foot race if you are wearied by the trials at hand. It's easy to be safe and sound and secure in a land of peace. But what about when the danger is pressing in on all sides? The pride of Jordan? When the overflowing peaceful banks meet with hungry lions? In the midst of all of our pride.

“If you have raced with men on foot, and they have wearied you,

how will you compete with horses?

And if in a safe land you are so trusting,

what will you do in the thicket of the Jordan?

Jeremiah 12:5
