SUFFERING/ PRAISE
We opened the book of Psalms to a Hand reaching out and directing the story of the Israelites in the midst of storms and tears and confusion and fears. God did not rescue them the main character, David, and the Israelites from all their troubles …. but he uncovered something deeper in them and called them to trust. The book opens with “Blessed is the man who doesn’t walk in the counsel of his disillusioned friends but in truth … as for me, I have installed my King and I take refuge in God” no matter what happened in this story. Psalm 1:1, 2:6. An intriguing take-away for me was the beautiful words David made his own. Psalm 119 said the unfolding of the Word gives light. The word “pentach” signifies an opening. Someone said: metaphorically, the opening was really a gate. And when the Light dispels the darkness for these Israelites, it lights up their minds and they entered the place God had for them. So “taken” with these words of psalms. “Your commandments are my counselors; your Word is my light and delight.” Psalm 119:24.
And the Book of Psalms closes holding that hand: Let everything that has breath on this earth praise the Lord.
