"Behold."
"Behind!"
It was the Voice of God behind Abraham. He turned and lifted his eyes up, behind him, to heaven. The Voice of Providence. In the thicket. A substitute for your son, Isaac. Jehovah-jireh, the Lord will provide. Deep signficance. The One Who provides this ram in the thicket will provide the "atoning victim of which this ram is a type." In the fulness of time, according to Luke. And we have known the fulness of that time when Christ came, unlike anyone in the OT. In the right moment of time, Christ came and still invites invades all of our lives this day.

And your ears will hear a Voice behind you saying, This is the way, walk in it. Jehovah-jireh. The Lord will provide in the very height of whatever He brings you into. T.h.e.r.e. He will certainly appear in due time, maybe 36,500 sunrises, for your deliverance. In the mount of the Lord, you will be seen.
COME BOLDLY: Timeless Daily Prayers
John 1:16 From this fulness, we have all received Grace upon Grace upon Grace.
Oh Father! May we hear the Sound of God behind us today in the mountains we climb. May we see You as Our Provider.
PHOTO: Gazing at the Rocky Mountains, a phone call came from behind, out of nowhere. Do you happen to need a car? No one knew. God knew. The Lord provided.

Hmmm. Food for thought for me. I'd never noticed the "From behind" theme.

God asking Abraham to sacrifice Isaac troubles me, not so much as what He is asking Abraham to do, but because I know at this moment that I don't have that kind of faith. I pray God would provide that kind of faith if I were to need it that I would obey without falter.
ReplyDeleteSacrificial love is so tender to me. God is right there for us, providing our Substitute. The Lord does provide in such beautiful ways--from the thicket, sometimes just in the nick of time. To this very day...
Oh, I know! But God is asking the "she-is-my-sister" guy. How did Abraham move from such betrayal and disrespect to a man willing to sacrifice one of the dearest things to his heart. Abram was different. No longer a betrayer, but beloved.
