Professional fishermen---yes they were.
They knew how to fish.
Even their confidence
Grace ~ It fell from Him. Still falls on our hearts. Luke 4:22
So, put your nets out into deep water, says the Carpenter. Luke 5:4. It's a miracle. These seasoned fishermen know how to fish. Only God could have pulled this one off. And grace falls in one of those daily moments where they spend hundreds of hours earning their way. We never know when a Divine Visit, Words of Grace, will fall on us at work.
So what's the insight here? Christ tells Peter to apply himself to this secular calling of his. Don't waste your work. Time spent there is never a hindrance, it's holy. When we have been with God, true joy will result in our work. "We must not abruptly quit our callings because we have not the success in them we desire." Own ourselves as sinful men, redeemed. Don't view your work as a vehicle to prepare for ministry. Work is your ministry.
PRAYER FROM PSALMS
Psalm 147
Dear God of Grace and Greatness, may your Words of Grace fall on each one of us. Help us, this day and always, to view our work not as a vehicle but as a

Grace fell on fishermen and they made the catch of a lifetime. I pray we remember the same grace falls on us daily as we work whether in an office or at home. I pray we work as unto You in all areas of our lives.
ReplyDeleteI can almost picture Jesus watching the three bring in their catch every morning and thinking, "Fishermen mentality is what they need. I'll supply the rest."
ReplyDelete"Cast your nets on the other side of the boat, guys." Same water. Same net. Same boat. But a vastly different outcome because Jesus was with them showing them what to do and they, in obedience, were blessed.
"When they had brought their boats to land, they left everything and followed Him." "Forsook all," the King James Version says. Can you imagine just walking away from your life and being so drawn by this experience? They saw that Grace Living with Jesus was all they needed.
That is how a disciple is born. Following in obedience, living by Grace, forsaking all to focus on One.
