The Pharisees spent their lives trying to figure out the law.
They didn't have this Gutenberg Bible which was first printed in 1454.
No Twitter---their posts were on their foreheads. Big posts!
No Pinterest---their fringe was lavish and lovely. Long fringe!
John Piper has written about how arrogant our country really is. He says that we are so unaware of how we all come across. We do not even recognize our arrogance is wrong. It's like extracting chlorine from water. We just don't get it out. We just don't get it. It's gone unnoticed for many decades now. I wonder how close we really live to pharisaical living.
"Sin is what you do when your heart is not satisfied with God. No one sins out of duty. We sin because it holds some promise of happiness. That promise enslaves us until we believe that God is more desired than life itself." John Piper
G. K. Chesterton said: “What we suffer from today is humility in the wrong place…A man was meant to be doubtful about himself, but undoubting about the truth; this has been exactly reversed”.
So what do we really think of this Christ of whom Matthew writes?
"What do you think of Him?" Matthew 22:42. Is He precious to you this day, all together wonderful? Is He your life, your joy, your all in all? Wonder why not---Wonder why we are so bored with some of it---Wonder what God is up to in our lives. Will we move a little closer to the Divine, the Son of David, this day? No more important question to answer.
PRAYER FROM PSALMS
In our arrogance, we move to hunt down others whom we believe are lesser than we are. O God, help us all. Psalm 10:2

The Wedding Feast
ReplyDelete2 Cor. 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come.”
In this parable, the king prepares the wedding feast and the invites come back, and everyone is too busy or not willing to come. So, the king deems them unworthy and opens the doors to all who will come. But one is found without proper wedding clothes and is cast out. Jesus concludes, "Many are called but few chosen."
God creates us, forgives us, and gives us the faith we need. He alone clothes us with acceptable clothing bought by the Blood of His Son. Man is totally unable by himself to do these things which are necessary to enter the kingdom of heaven.
Let our hearts be filled with gratitude to Him this day for the garment of righteousness that clothes us in the white linen fit for the King's Son's Wedding Celebration.
Love your heart Mary Lou that longs for God's Protection and Guidance. A heart that trusts in the midst of hard days. I don't walk in your shoes, but I know the feeling of the sentence: "it is not how I pictured my life to be." My world is upside down probably with little change. May God's Grace be all over you during this precious time with your grandsons. It is all you have to do right now. I am concerned about your description of Wednesday and will certainly pray for you as you trust Him so! 2 Thes 1:11-12. My Love! Bev
ReplyDeleteMary Lou, I too see your trust and faithfulness with which you go through life. And failures will come but you immediately went to the Lord and dealt with the part that can keep you from relationship with him, so now with His Help, he will see you through this new season.
ReplyDeleteMy life has changed dramatically in the last few months and I hadn't really considered how much I missed my old routine. I know your situation has so many more facets, but I relate to that sense of loss. I believe God will use you mightily in your grandsons' lives, (and He has already) More and more I see prayer as our defense and offense as we tackle life's obstacles. Keep fighting the good fight, Mary Lou. And I am sorry for this season of trial. You are well loved here. Stay in the Word and let His Spirit have his way in you. He looks so beautiful on you. Love and hugs, Annette
