August 5 "Am I Living to Please Myself?" Isaiah 37:16

Hezekiah took the letter from the hand of the messengers.  Read it.  Went up to the LORD and spread it out before the LORD. Isaiah 37:16.  Hezekiah prayed to the LORD:  You are God, You Alone.  INcline Your ear, and hear; open Your eyes and see; listen to all the words of Sennacherib who is reproaching you.  So, what is Hezekiah doing?  Appealing from good places in his heart.  God answers Hezekiah through Isaiah:  No, you have looked with haughty eyes upon Your LORD up to this time.  This prayer has no power.  Even though we pray, there are no magical formulas.  All I can do is deal with God with what I know this hour.  I am free not to please myself any longer.  Free to live to please my God.

PRAYER FROM PSALMS:
Not to us, but to Yourself Give Glory, O God!
Not to us.
Psalm 115:1

  1. The words today minister to this weary heart. Hezekiah served the Lord not men, though men could have unnerved him. He remembered the Lord, sought Him in times of trouble, and God answered mightily many times--more than once is noted here in these verses!

And the beautiful, beautiful proclamation and promise of our Lord through Isaiah proclaims:
Do you not know? Have you not heard?
The Everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth
Does not become weary or tired.
    His understanding is inscrutable.

He gives strength to the weary,
And to him who lacks might He increases power.
Though youths grow weary and tired,
And vigorous young men stumble badly,

Yet those who wait for the Lord
    Will gain new strength;
They will mount up with wings like eagles,
They will run and not get tired,
They will walk and not become weary.

Anybody weary? Anybody weak? Wait for the Lord!

  3. A few weeks as I was seeking His face and His hand....we sang the song..."our strength will rise as we wait upon the Lord"....He spoke words of comfort directly to my heart and I gave Him all the praise and glory for enabling me to rise and praise Him in the matter for which I was seeking Him.Those verses in Isaiah 40:31 are such a balm to the weary soul. IF we will wait upon Him, He will raise us up. He is working ALL things for my good...the good as well as the things that can be deemed bad.
