It's terribly Quiet here at the Quarries.
For what do I wait this night?
Psalm 39:7
Do I wait for things to turn around?
Here is the tribe of Levi in today's reading. I Chron 6:1. It's a long chronicled list. Here are names we recognize astonishingly with such respect:
Aaron and Moses---instruments in God's Hand to deliver Israel. Faith. Forbearance. Foreshadowing. Moses the Prophet.
Aaron the Priest. And we know them.
And they are right next to Abihu and Nadab in the genealogy---your remember the terror they brought, the very strange fire.
One rebuilt the temple and lived for God; the other tried to rebuild their lives---and lived for themselves. "Devote your first energies to rebuilding the temple, not your lives." 66LL. To the exiled but still proud community in this list, God underlined sin. To the restored but discouraged community in this list, God aroused hope. 66LL.
We come down so hard on ourselves for being discouraged, but I wonder if the real question is this---do we have hope this day?
We are no longer exiles.
We are living in hope. Delivered. Adopted. Beloved.
PRAYER FROM PSALMS
Psalm 39: 6-7Surely, a man goes about as a shadow!
Man heaps up wealth and does not know who will gather!
O, LORD, for what do I wait?
That is the question this day. My hope is in You.
Deliver me from all my sin.
Psalm 39:4 Make me to know my end
and what is the measure of my days; let me know how fleeting I am!
OVERVIEW: I Chronicles 6

The lineage of the priesthood of Levi piques my interest. Wondering what and who each of these chosen men of God were, how they served, how they lived. Each has a story, each has a judgment pronounced over their lives, not unlike other genealogies, but with an elect status of holy duty attached to their names. These were the chosen servants of God's House.
ReplyDeleteBelievers share the priestly lineage, as a Royal Priesthood by the Father. We are chosen and set apart, whether holy or not, and made clean by the Blood and sacrifice of Christ, and internally sanctified by the Spirit of God; having the principles of holiness wrought in us as believers. That's something to celebrate!
1 Peter 2:9 "But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light."
We are God's treasures. Let us declare His praises!
Annette G, you took 1 Peter 2:9 right out of my mouth (keyboard), I thought the same thing this morning as I read 1 Chronicles 6. Let us praise Him with all we have and all we are.
