Some of the names on this list passed by Mount Carmel.
These people carried their load, did their part in this world.
And then they passed the generation on to the next ones.
Where am I this day in this world of mine?
It's a list. A long one. I Chronicles 1. I read it once a year. This year, it seems different to me. That first name. We all know him. Adam. I Chron 1:1. Father of the human race. Then, all those names! People like you and me who wrestled with God. A remnant found Him!
I remember kneeling in the living room of Elisabeth Elliot, listening to her pray to our Living God: We come before you and join all those who have gone before us. We will all spend eternity together. It made you think about all those people who were God's people, who paid a price to follow God, not their own ambitions. Will we do the same? Those who followed God did more than just doing their part in this world, they entered a relationship with the God they found.
"May we be distinguished as the Lord's people."
PRAYER FROM PSALMS
Psalm 149:4 ~ O, God, You take pleasure in your people. The names on list who followed You and not their own kingdom. You say, O God, that You will beautify the meek. You will deliver those of us afflicted. Thank you for taking notice of our lives this night. Oh, distinguish us to know Your Name better.
OVERVIEW: I Chronicles 1-2

Before I started doing my family's genealogy, I dreaded reading them in the bible. As I read of the ancestors, I wonder how they lived, what they looked like, and if they knew God.
ReplyDeleteIt is my chance to leave a legacy for my descendants. I want the legacy to be:
She followed God to Heaven.
Part of me thought I forgot I Chronicles begins with genealogies and the other part of me was reminded of the importance of the genealogy which leads to Jesus, the one I want to be listed on as a descendant.
ReplyDeleteAs I read the footnotes in my Life Application Study Bible. I thought this was worth sharing. "Scripture teaches that the way you live today will determine how you will be remembered by others and how you will be judged by God. What you do NOW, does matter." And another one said "Some of these in 1 Chronicles were remembered as evil or wicked in the sight of the LORD and all these thousand of years later, this is all we know of them. How could your life be summarized up to now?" Thought these were wonderful thoughts. There is a member of our family of whom no one has any very good memories of and we still do not think highly of them at all, whereas, there are others that are remember with fondness and love and value. How I desire for God to be able to look at me and say. "well done thou good and faithful servant" and for those left behind to give God the glory for the way I lived. Being a child of the King is an awesome responsibility, may we only bring Him honor and glory and finish well.
