April 27 "Cling to the LORD" II Kings 18:6

This is a doomed star. Symbolic of what we might look like on the outside. Pretty Good. But we are all doomed if we do not run in the way of His commands. And no one can 24/7. Evil runs through. Doomed but never destroyed. Always delivered. So, What am I clinging to this day? Hezekiah clung to the LORD. II Kings 18:6. I love that. He kept God's commandments---the ones from Moses. And Hezekiah never forgot what his father did to him---made him walk through fire. A father who boasted a record as one of the most wicked kings in the history of Judah. A son who ended up being one of the best kings. Hezekiah cared more about what stirred in his heart than what happened to him---and moved on that. He did not let his past define him. 25-years-old and he forges ahead as a king with a mission. "And the LORD was with him." II Kings 18:7. And when he stood in the midst of a, he took a letter from the messengers of doom, read it, then went straight to his God. Spread it out, right there on the table, before the LORD. And he prayed to the God enthroned above. You are God Alone of all the kingdoms of the earth. Incline your ear, O LORD, and hear; open Your eyes, O Lord, and see; and listen to these words on this paper. O God, I pray, deliver us from this so that all may know You Alone are God. Not for my sake. For your Sake, O LORD.

And the LORD answered: I know your coming out. I know your going in. But, because of your raging against Me, I will turn you back by the way which you came. II Kings 19:28.

LORD, help us all to quickly deal with what rises in rage within. The absence of these temptations is not the victory, we will always have to deal with evil running right through us. LORD, may you be so very real that we invite you every single day to read our mail, read our hearts.

PRAYER FROM PSALMS:

Psalm 5:3 - May You hear my voice every morning, O God over all.

Hear this prayer of my heart today. Psalm 39:12.

Give Your Ear to my cry.

Do not be silent at my tears.

For I am a stranger with You.

A sojourner like all my fathers.

Help me cling to You Alone, not this stuff around my feet.

OVERVIEW: II Kings 18-19

  1. King Hezekiah did right in the sight of the Lord, according to all that his father David had done. He removed the high places and broke down the sacred pillars and cut down the ]Asherah. He also broke in pieces the bronze serpent that Moses had made, for until those days the sons of Israel burned incense to it; and it was called Nehushtan.

Finally, a king not only does what is right in the Lord's sight, he destroys the places idols are worshiped. A great start to his reign and a great thing for the people of Judah.

Lord if we have any high places in our lives, please reveal them to us so we may tear them down and demolish them completely.

‘Because of your raging against Me,
And because your arrogance has come up to My ears,
Therefore I will put My hook in your nose,
And My bridle in your lips,
And I will turn you back by the way which you came.

Lord, reveal to us if we have been angry and arrogant and have not quickly repented and turned away from it. If we are angry, we want to sin not. Reveal to us any sinful, broken places we have hidden in our hearts.
