What are the chances of seeing a total solar eclipse in your lifetime?
What are the chances of walking in on a King having a conversation about your son?
And you haven't lived in that town for 7 years.
God eclipses our story for Good---outshines, outlasts, outdoes.
There is nothing said in this life that God does not hear. There is nothing done that God does not know.
Our Advocate may be silent or storming.
His Eyes, His Ears are here today.
The Shunammite woman took Elisha's advice in the midst of famine.
She sojourned in the land of the Phlistines for seven years.
Went to the familiar for help, for food, for life.
She took her son restored from the dead.
Nothing out of God's Knowing.
Upon her return, she appeals to the king to inquire about her house.
She enters and the King is talking with Gehazi about Elisha.
Tell me all the great things that Elisha has done.
She speaks up: Elisha restored my son.
And so the king restores her land.
7 Years Worth---here it is.
There are no insignificant events in this life.
A simple conversation can turn into a deep blessing.
A mundane moment can produce holy hope if God is in the midst.
So keep on ploughing in reverence and in repentance.
Be present. Nothing is out of His Knowing.
II Kings 8:4-6.
OVERVIEW: II Kings 6-8

Today's readings were full of miracles beginning with the recovery of an axe head and including an army abandoning their camp. I pray our faith grows as we remember God is the same yesterday, today and forever and we believe He still performs miracles today.
ReplyDeleteYes, Annette. It seems we read miracles and don't see this is the same God in this very hour of our lives.
DeleteNorthern Kingdom of Israel, Southern Kingdom of Judea, kings doing evil in the sight of the Lord...trying to sort and keep it straight is difficult.
ReplyDeleteIn BSF, they taught us that all the northern Israel kings did evil in the eyes of the Lord and some of the southern Judean kings were remembered as evil. In today's readings, Jehoshaphat (Southern Kingdom), Jehoram (Southern Kingdom), Joram (Northern Kingdom), and Ahaziah all "did evil in the sight of the Lord."
This is the way they are remembered for all of time. This is their legacy. Very little else is recorded of each of them. We look back on their reigns and think, Why didn't they turn to God? Why didn't they repent? So much was at stake.
Not unlike this very day, I'd say. A lot is at stake for each of us in our families, in our communities, in our nation. Yet, many still serve the god of self. Each of us has lapses of unholiness. We've heard it said that character is what you do when no one is looking. I know salvation is not about what we do that brings us to God, but those very actions do have an impact. God is watching, looking deeply into our hearts. What does He see? What will He record as our history? What will He remember us for?
Can we honestly pray as Nehemiah did, in Neh 5:19 "Remember me, O my God, for good, according to all that I have done for this people"? For some of us, that is a scary thought. My prayer is more Remember me for good, Lord, because of Your Son, with mercy." Not a bad prayer, but there should be somewhat of a balance in that all my actions post-salvation would be in alignment with His Love, that He could see a changed heart that does good in His sight.
May He remember each of us with favor, as doing good in the sight of the Lord. And, oh, for Grace to love Him more and to act from that place in our hearts.
Just love all your comments.
