April 19 "What Makes Me Cover My Face Before My God?" I Kings 19:13

I Kings 18:41 "There is the sound of a heavy shower."
God was in the midst of Elijah and He was working behind-the-scenes.
"Let us never despise the day of the small things,
but hope and wait for Greater Things."

Not greater circumstances but the greater things of God for us.
I hear the sound of rain---God is up to something in my life.

Jezebel scares the wits out of Elijah, threatening his 24-hour life, and Elijah runs for the mountains.  And his God beholds him there:  "What are you doing here, Elijah"?  And we have to ask ourselves the same question---What are you doing here this day?

An immediate response from Elijah:  "I have been very zealous for the LORD, tore down the altars, killed umpteen prophets with the sword I Kings 19:10 ... Look what I have done for God!

God instructs Elijah to stand on the mountain before his God.  It is the LORD Himself passing by---in a hurricane wind, a monstrous earthquake, a white-hot fire---and Elijah could not see God in the midst of all of His Transcendent Power.  Until . . . a sound of a gentle blowing Whisper makes Elijah cover his face up. Nailed.  Wrapped.  Grasped.  I Kings 19:13.  And it's the same question..."What are you doing here?"

It wasn't the magnanimous display of God's Power that humbled Elijah.  It was a Welcoming Whisper that brought him low.  May this very day we find the Peculiar Power of God in the mundane, the sweet rain, and it so take over our thirsty hearts.  May we be found ploughing when it happens ~ I Kings 19:19.

PRAYER FROM PSALMS
Psa 72:6
 May Our God
come down like rain
upon the fresh mown grass,
like showers that water my earth

  1. Elijah, the Prophet of God who has been sustained by the Lord, empowered by the Lord to outrun a chariot is at the point of giving up on account of Jezebel. I know it can be easy to give up when we are spent emotionally, spiritually, and physically, but that is the most critical time we must lay it down before the Lord and not pick it up. We must call our friends to pray for us/our situation and carry us to the Lord like the paralytic's friends carried him to Jesus. We must get quiet and listen. These are the times He whispers...
