March 2 "Doing Us Good in the End" Deuteronomy 8:16

Look back ... "remember the whole way that the LORD your God has led you these 40 years in the wilderness, that He might humble you, testing you to know what was in your heart."  Deut 8:2.  God is calling us to look back to pull us in to obedient hearts.  Remember those tight places you have been in.  "He let you hunger and fed you with manna."  God said---he lets us be hungry! "Your clothing did not wear out.  Your feet did not swell." Deut 8:4.  Remember the abundant supply of miracles He did for you.  He has given us food for our soul---the Living Word!  He has given us Himself in our desperate need, over and over and over.  So, what's the point?  Walk in His Ways and Fear Him for the LORD your God is bringing you into a good land, a good place, and yes there will be war in this new land.

Look forward ... "a land of brooks of water, of fountains and springs, flowing out in the valleys and hills, a land of wheat and barley, of vines and fig trees ... where "you will lack nothing."  Deut 8:9.

Beware ... lest you say "my power and the might of my hand have gotten me this wealth."  No, it's all about Deut 8:16, it is God, the Great Benefactor, Who wills to work of His Good Pleasure.  He is always doing us good in the end!  Some call it the Great Secret.  He's always doing us good, even in our wilderness.

PRAYER FROM PSALMS ~ Psalm 119:68
Before I was afflicted, I went astray.
Now, I keep your Word.
You are Good and
You do good.
O God!

  1. A treasure from today's reading:

Deut. 10:21 He is your praise and He is your God, who has done these great and awesome things for you which your eyes have seen.

He is our praise. He alone has done great things before our eyes. Sing of His Works this day and testify to His goodness. He is so worthy of our mindfulness and heart's song.

  2. In Deut. 8:2, I believe you could stick your age in there in place of these forty years. He has led me,ever since I turned my life over to Him. Actually, He was leading me before that, for He brought me to Himself. He has done that for each one of us, so that we might see what is in our hearts and whether we would keep His commandments or not.

I have lacked nothing in my past and will lack nothing in my future for my God is right there with me as He has always been,it's up to me to recognize Him and obey Him and praise His holy name for everything in my life, down from the heat in my house, to the clothes on my back, the beauty of the companionship of my husband, to my salvation. He and He alone is worthy of our praise and we are to sing His praise to the nations.

    1. I love that, Mary Lou--putting your age in that verse. Yes, He has!
