Let those who truly live,
Love God like the Rising Sun
in its Might. Judges 5:31
Judges 5 speaks deeply to my heart. O My Soul! Awake! If we are dead in how we honor our God, then something is competing for that First Place. What will we do with these complacent hearts of ours? Competing Desires. Deborah calls upon her very soul to be alive! Calls upon Barak to stand tall! Judges 5:12 ~ Awake, Awake, Deborah: Awake, Awake, utter a song: Arise, Barak, and lead. The Israelites had been at rest for 80 years. What did that rest confirm? Do we allow good circumstances to confirm that all is well. May it never be! The Israelites were secure/safe/slighting God. The moment that Sisera starts oppressing Israel, they are depressed again, crying out, disbelieving. Now, I certainly understand the horror they must feel in war---it's just there was no tenderness in their hearts to trust their God in this new unknown. They were sick and slighting Him! What about me? Will I trust Him in this Present Darkness?Confidence in Chariots: Sisera calls on his 900 Iron Chariots to defeat Israel.
V.
Confidence in God: Deborah calls on her God to raise up an Army. Judges 4:13.
And God subdues the King of Canaan through this woman Who Loves God.
A woman who was like a Mother to Israel.
Can we be like mothers to those whom God has called us to lead?
Can I call on God to raise up for me what is best?
"He that had thought to have destroyed Israel with his many iron chariots is himself destroyed with one iron nail."
PRAYER FROM PSALMS
Psalm 119:165 Give us Great Peace, O God, as we Love your Law, and do not cause us to stumble at Iron Chariots. Wake us up to truly live!
BIOGRAPHICAL READING PLAN - Deborah: Judges 4-5
OVERVIEW Judges 3-5

As I read today's passage I was taken back to my 5th grade classroom at St. Thomas' Episcopal School in Houston. Judges was our history book that year. I still vividly remember Mrs. Archer reading us the story of Sisera in the KJV.
ReplyDeleteI asked the Lord to give me something to take away from today's reading other than a king, woman, and tent peg. He did. He reminded me - He is the same today, yesterday, and tomorrow. He still leads us to victory. We are to awake and arise, He leads us, He demolishes the chariots. He vanquishes the enemy.
O Lord, I sing praises to You.
