Gal 2:20 "Godliness With No Power" (July 14)

What is the old man in you at war about today?
I don't want to be left alone here, I pray.
My old man wars with my new man.

That old country, that old man---it's dead, crucified.
That new country, that new man---is alive, justified.

We are "keepers" of the Gospel.
The Gospel is not ours.
So what will we do with it pray tell?

This new man,
in this new land,
is not dependent on works of a moral law.

A hidden life in Christ
A faith fastened on Christ
A grace quickened by Christ

So why is my old man so down?
Sin is mortified, right?
Do I have a form of godliness
but no power in sight?
From what am I running?
God sees my fleeing
Scared of aloneness.
Scared of being nobody.

"Faith works by Love and
Causes Obedience
Changes me to Holy."
           Matthew Henry
I have been crucified with Christ.
It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me.
And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God,
who loved me and gave Himself for me."                              Galatians 2:20

  1. Hello, my sweet friend! What a joy seeing you in my inbox again. I hope all is well in your world. I perused the Fray a little bit and saw the pictures of your beautiful family. My, you must be so proud.

This pieces speaks to me right where I am. Leaving that old man behind...sometimes feels like the pain of shedding a skin.

Good words. They name something inside of me.

    Hugs to you!

  2. James perceived the grace given to Paul. Interesting word "perceived" I don't think it's like divinely perceived here but could be, I suppose. It seems Paul wore grace well that others saw he had the Spirit's influence upon him.

I so hope that I wear Christ well, that others perceive His grace on me. There is nothing I am more thankful for in my life than His presence. May more of me die that more of Him may shine through.
