Proverbs 24
10 If you fall to pieces in a crisis, there wasn't much to you in the first place.
Prover bs 25
6 -7 Don't work yourself into the spotlight; don't push your way into the place of prominence. It's better to be promoted to a place of honor than face humiliation by being demoted.
8 Don't jump to conclusions—there may be a perfectly good explanation for what you just saw.
9 -10 In the heat of an argument, don't betray confidences;Word is sure to get around, and no one will trust you.
13 Reliable friends who do what they say are like cool drinks in sweltering heat—refreshing!
14 Like billowing clouds that bring no rain is the person who talks big but never produces.
28 A person without self-control is like a house with its doors and windows knocked out.

And when you find a friend, don't outwear your welcome;
show up at all hours and he'll soon get fed up" (Proverbs 25:16-17).
...Blog worthy, but I don't have the time to write about it this morning. :)
"It's better to be wise than strong; intelligence outranks muscle any day. Strategic planning is the key to warfare; to win, you need a lot of good counsel." Prov 24:5-6
ReplyDeleteThis verse stuck out to me because of a verse I'm memorizing in 2 Corinthians 10: 3-4 "For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh, for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses."
Thank you, Lord for being our Wonderful Counselor as we often are struggling with matters of the mind. You are divinely powerful to destroy these fortresses that so easily trap me within.
"Patient persistence pierces through indifference; gentle speech breaks down rigid defenses." Prov 25: 15
Proverbs reminds me of the book of James. They just get right to the point. No beating around the bush. My heart, and the intent of it, exposed.
ReplyDelete"...I'll get back at you for what you did to me. I'll make you pay for what you did!" (Prov.24:29b)
I never said these words with my mouth. My actions spoke them loud and clear.
"Like billowing clouds that bring no rain is the person who talks big but never produces." (Prov.25:14)
Talk is cheap. Actions speak louder than words.
I have had too many times when something I've said has been negated by what I did.
"You didn't think, did you, that just by pointing your finger at others you would distract God from seeing all your misdoings and from coming down on you hard? Or did you think that because he's such a nice God, he'd let you off the hook? Better think this one through from the beginning. God is kind, but he's not soft. In kindness he takes us firmly by the hand and leads us into a radical life-change." (Romans 2:3-4 The Message)
I only distract myself from my own sin when I point to someone elses. May I see my sin.
Happiness in a pleasant world is for the next life. Making us holy in a messed up world is His plan for now. 66LL
No remorse...I want Godly sorrow that will lead to repentance...radical change from the inside out! Just wrestling with God's Word and my sin this week.
It's hot here in more ways than one!

Prov 24:9
ReplyDeleteFools incubate sin; cynics desecrate beauty.
I like the simplicity of this verse. Cynics...DESECRATE...beauty. I've been around cynics and they always leave me feeling so dirty. I couldn't understand that until now. What I would see a good, pure or beautiful...they would have a cynical cutdown. I never thought of that as desecrating beauty but I guess that's what it is.
Prov 25:25
Like a cool drink of water when you're worn out and weary is a letter from a long-lost friend.
This day and age, letters are so rare. I have one in my bible right now from Nikki Poppins, a sweet, young siesta I met when I went to Atlanta for the live taping of Travis Cottrell's "Jesus Saves" cd/dvd. She wrote me a letter when my husband left and I treasure it. I go back and read it often and it encourages me. And she's so young. In her 20's. This verse encourages me to write a letter to someone today...
Prov 26:2 You have as little to fear from an undeserved curse as from the dart of a wren or the swoop of a swallow.
I have been troubled by the thoughts that Christians have enemies in our world today. Muslims call America the great satan. Witches pray against church, preachers, their families, etc.
I know that 3 times a day Muslims bow to Allah and pray. Do they pray against me, a Christian? Yes, I think they do. Should I worry about that? According to this verse, no. An undeserved curse should cause me as little fear as a dart of a wren. Duck quickly but keep on walking by faith, trusting God, the One True God.
Cici,I forgot to say Happy Birthday to Meredith. Hope it was a special day for her!
ReplyDeleteDeborah, I have also wondered about curses and found comfort in this verse.
Blessings,
FG
Bev,
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting my scriptures and comments in blog entry for today as you wrote for yourself.
I went to read the scripture first then realized as I read your Post Yes, since I was a young child and had self esteem issues I learned early on Jesus really is my only Hope. Praise His Holy Name.
Yes, Ang if I wrote about all the different conversations I've had with friends and acquaintances this week alone Proverbs addreses every one of them at some point or other.
I need to keep my face in Proverbs more often. There are so many opportunties for learning each day and the correct answers for each one is hidden between the covers of God's Word.
More times than I know is a prayer for wisdom and discernment for situations. Proverbs as written in The Message makes the information very easily understood.
Thank each of you for your comments as we support one another and grow stronger in the WORD.
This is a Song I must sing.

Hurst Mom,
ReplyDeleteAs I read your post, I thought about the scripture that says "God uses the simple to confound the wise.
Too much of the time I find myself a control freak...the truth is I can plan and arrange, etc. but God's purpose prevails. God is truly in control and I am not. It hurts to hear that sometimes but I am so thankful that is truth for me.
Thank you for expressing yourself. Living the Christian life is remembering that this earth is not my home and to PERSEVERE in faith believing that God will make a way when there seems to be no way. PTL!
Grace and Peace a Song I must Sing,
Sylvia
Bev, I have sent you an email to the gmail acct..please check it as soon as you can...thanks...love you Mary Lou
ReplyDeleteAn honest answer is like a warm hug. How true. This one goes along with another one that Bev pointed out.
ReplyDeleteLiars hate their victims; flatterers sabotage trust.
These verses reminded me of how much I should value - and do value - the people who speak truth in my life. Sometimes it's hard to hear things about myself, but more than that, I don't want to be deceived about myself.
I'm grateful for each of you on here because you have been truth speakers to me this year. You are helping to strengthen my resolve to be holy.
Frankly, it was a losing battle today. My sweet, obedient child turned two recently, and she's challenging me at every turn. It's exhausting - and oh so irritating too - but I'm thankful for this blog to help with perspective.
Bless you, ladies.
