July 11 ... Psalm 140 - 145 "God, Come Close"

Psalm 141

1 -2 God, come close. Come quickly! Open your ears—it's my voice you're hearing!

Treat my prayer as sweet incense rising; my raised hands are my evening prayers.

As the sun sets on a day in all of our stories, may we allow Him to cultivate a quiet heart in each of us.  A little more restful.  A little more dependent.   A little more stable.  I need my God this night to come close to me.  Come quickly.  I've been thinking so much about "prayer" over the past year.  Whose voice is God hearing today?  What is stirring in my heart?  What's stronger?  What do I need to "let go" of this night?  God, come close.  Come quickly.  I need you so!

  1. Dear Bev, I cannot imagine what it feels like to have a child get married. One day, hopefully! I'm sure you are exhausted and full of all kinds of emotion this day after. I pray you have time to relax! I can't believe you took the time to post on here before your head hit the pillow. You inspire me!

I was out of town last week and was very excited to have some time away from my job. It's weird how I didn't have to worry about work, but my marriage was all-consuming. It must be me! Some people thrive on crisis and I didn't think I did it until now. I also play "victim" WAY too much! Anyway, it helped me realize how important my job is to me and more importantly, how dependent I am on God in ALL areas of my life.

I really do wonder why He cares... :)

" I wonder why you care, God—
why do you bother with us at all?
    All we are is a puff of air;
we're like shadows in a campfire."

I'm just going to go with it and Believe He cares! Much love to all of you,
    Angie xoxo

  2. May all our prayers be sweet incense before Him. May He hear our cries. May He not "haul us into court" for who could stand? Merciful and generous to a fault--this is our God.

I've been thinking a lot about prayer too. I'm doing the study right now "A Praying Life" by Jennifer Kennedy Dean (which is great, by the way.) I am so glad we have a place to pour out our complaints, to spell out our troubles, to stretch out our hand thirsty for God as a desert is for rain.

"O God. Let me sing a new song to you" I'm ready for a new song today and, speaking of, need to go get myself together for church. I'm going to a new church by our ranch this morning. I can't wait to worship with them. Blessed Sunday everyone.

  3. God is so gracious and merciful even to a fault. Yet, God, there is no flaw in You; this is Your divine nature - that You could love beyond measure, even when it is not reciprocated. I praise you for this and am indeed so very grateful that You have mercy on us all.

BTW, thank you, my sisters in Christ, for allowing me to be a part of this. I pray for each of you this day, that He would hold you in His hand, and that you would know that He is.

  4. Oh my word, if He hauled me into court, none of us would stand up again. Such a merciful God! He knows our frame. It's the morning after the wedding and I am headed out-of-town on a road trip with one of the California visitors who came to Blair's wedding, my Seminary roommate Mindy. We're going to Oklahoma for the week. So, I may not have internet service on this road trip except my cell phone which is S L O W. So, I'll post the days today and hope to get on the internet soon. Bob and Britt already drove back to Austin at 7:30am. See you on Thursday!

  5. Hi Jen!
    Welcome back, Ang!
    Have fun, Bev!
Annette, hope u enjoyed the church!

I typed out the requests David made to God from Chapters 140 and 141. David is in the clutches of evil!

Why do you think he has so many enemies???

Psalm 140 - David pleads with God.
    *get me out of here
    *protect me
*keep me out of the clutch
    *Listen
*Don't let the wicked have their way
    *don't give them an inch
*let them drown in their own verbal poison
*Let God pile hellfire on them
    *let him bury them alive
*don't let them be taken seriously
*let the Devil hunt them down!

Psalm 141 - David pleads with God
    +Come close
    +Come quickly
    +Open Your ears
+Treat my prayers as sweet incense rising
+Post a guard at my mouth
+Set a watch at the door of my lips
+Don't let me dream of evil
+Don't let me thoughtlessly fall into bad company
    +Don't let them lure me
    +Set me straight
    +Correct me
+Don't let sin anoint my head
+Let their leaders be pushed off a high rock cliff
    +Make them face the music
+Let their bones be scattered at the gates of hell
    +Take good care of me
+Protect me from their evil scheming
+Protect me from all their demonic subterfuge
+Let the wicked fall flat on their faces
+Let me walk off without a scratch.

Again, why do you think David has so many enemies???
