'The verse to give my heart and soul to praying to God stirs something inside of me. I so want to give myself to praying to God, moving the very Hands of God for Plan A. Teach us to pray.
Albert Einstein once said: "The most important question anyone can ask is whether this world is a safe place to live...for beneath all that is in our lives, there is both pain and wrong. I sense a powerful benevolence working on my behalf." It's Sheer Wonder. We don't deserve a thing. God is with you. Rebuild the temple not your life. So what does that look like for me?
David's preparing the way for his son Solomon to rebuild the temple reminded me of the people who have gone before me to pave my way to do the work of the Lord. Parents and grandparents who prayed for us,suffered and sacrificed so that their children could have a better life, and ancestors who believed in religious freedom all set the stage for me to be found in Christ this day. With Mother's Day, I'm reminded that perhaps, most important of all, I had a mother who believed in me, who set an example with the bar high, who would have given anything for her children.
ReplyDeleteToday, as I experience that same kind of sacrificial love, I see David, who so wanted to build the temple to honor his God, but for the sacrifice set before him, he was pleased to know his son would have the honors. His son building the temple probably meant more to him, than if God had allowed David. As a mom, we know that kind of love that would gladly surrender any benefit or blessing if it would grant that blessing to our child.
Sheer Wonder is mightily at work within us. And we are prepared because of those who went before us. "You're all set—get to work! And God-speed!" Happy Mother's Day tomorrow!
Yes! Happy Mother's Day tomorrow to all of you!
ReplyDeleteI came away from today's reading with one word vibrating in my soul...
Legacy
Just like you shared, Annette, generations before have prepared the way for us to live as we do, to worship as we do, to have the many great tools at our disposal to live our lives full of blessings.
I think about my own father fighting in the wars...not just one but two.
He played a role in the freedom I cherish.
I think it's pure that David was denied this task. Solomon...Peace...built the temple with the things David furnished.
I still am not too impressed with Solomon. Too many foreign wives and too much acceptance of idolatry. God loved him, though. And he was definitely assigned this task by God.
Wondering what task God has assigned me today.
