1 Chronicles 16:11 "Study God and his strength, seek His Presence day and night." This verse jumps out at me out of these 3 chapters of beautiful prayers. The Promise of His Presence. Today was my first evaluative scans after having had cancer exactly one year ago. Miss Much Afraid showed up in the exam room, but that's the old Bev. I looked down and there was a text on my cell from a dear friend: "I will pray you sense His Presence because HE walks with you." Oh my. The radiologist found something unusual and prolonged the order with more scans. Fear washed over me as I asked God to show me His Presence. I sat among other women waiting to hear results. A tv blared self-help tips while I opened 66 Love Letters to read the next chapter where I was. Didn't want to go "fishing" for practical tips to overcome my fear. I wanted to hear my God. So I just read the next thing. Here were the words that came to me: "I invite you to delight in your distress. Nothing else provides the same opportunity to move strongly and joyfully into life on the basis of My promises alone, the promises of My Presence now." There it was again...the promise of God's Presence in the midst of my fear of losing my health. "Seizing that opportunity will free you to passionately engage life for My Purposes with no demands." Seek His Presence day and night! So I wonder what that looks like for me, for you? Am I more afraid of losing God's Presence than losing the good life here?
Today is the First Thursday in the month of May---National Prayer Day. Join in and leave a prayer here today.
ReplyDeleteOur Strong and Good God over all,
Hear our corporate prayers. Would you draw men and women to Yourself this day through their suffering, their distress. May we all seek Your Presence day and night. I Chron 16:11. Stir up good in the hearts of our fellow men and work a work of faith with power that You may be glorified in our country. And start with me. ReplyDeleteWho plants our feet on solid rock.
Who prepares our hands for battle.
Who lights our path with His Word.
Who gives us Hope.
Who promises us an eternal home with no tears...no death.
Who heals all our diseases.
Who comforts us in our sorrow.
Who sends us down the path of suffering to make us holy.
Who knows how scary it is to be us.
Who knows our every need.
Who weeps for us to come to Him.
Who provides for us.
Who hears our prayers.
Who gives victory.
Who sees.
Who loves us.
He is holy.
He is faithful.
He is at work.
He is preparing us a place to be with Him.
He is coming again.
He is Faithful and True.
Praying, God, that You would come quickly. This place is not our home.
Amen.
From David's song of praise to God:
"Say, "Save us, Savior God, round us up and get us out of these godless places,
So we can give thanks to your holy Name, and bask in your life of praise."
Those words spoke to me today. America...God is weeping over us right now...just like He wept over Jerusalem. How can His anger not be exploding right now? The righteous ones are His. He knows each sheep, and we know His Voice, and we follow Him. Don't give up praying for America. Nashville is in a mess. New York has been compromised again by terrorism. Our nation is crumbling at it's core. But God is in control. He sits on His throne and He is God. Evil...we live in a fallen world. But God calls us to Him. Run to Him and let Him be Your God. He is GOD, my GOD. I praise His Name.
Bev, I'm praying for your peace in the storm. The storms don't always go away, but I pray His Peace will wash over you, particularly in the wait. "And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
ReplyDeleteI read this from Richard Foster as I pray for our country to repent of these sins:
"Today the heart of God is an open wound of love. He aches over our distance and preoccupation. He mourns that we do not draw near to Him. He grieves that we have forgotten Him. He weeps over our obsession with muchness and manyness. He longs for our presence." (Prayer: Finding the Heart's True Home)
